New 3 series uses AISIN transmission?
I just read this review: http://m.overdrive.in/reviews/2016-b...d-test-review/
In the review, it mentions that the new 3-series have switched from ZF to Aisin and that it's not as fast as the outgoing ZF. Can anyone verify if this is the case? I know Lexus, Cadillac, and Porsche Cayenne use Aisin. |

Doesn't say it's slower..just says not quicker. Sounds like a lateral change to me....

My question is why BMW uses AISIN now when it always has been ZF? Aisin is slower than ZF with my experience in the Cayenne and Lexus GS 350. It's smooth, but it's slow to downshift.

I don't believe the zf was removed from 3 series supply list. 8 speed zf is touted quite well as a great transmission. For longitudinal engines = zf, transverse = aisen (X1).

Hard to determine this; the article is tilted to the 3-series..doesn't mention the X1,etc. Guess we'll see.

That's a bit depressing to know, especially if the change for the 3 series has indeed been made.

The 340i has the ZF. Hard to imagine they'd tool up another transmission. I would say that is a misinformed comment.

There really isn't much use in comparing the transmission as experienced in another model. The same trans are tuned for a variety of applications and priorities all the time.

The Aisin gearbox in the second gen mini is comically bad. Especially when paired with the base non turbo with a whooping 120lbs of torque. It's the only modern made gearbox I know off where the manual was noticeably quicker. Was lent one and I seriously thought about completing the journey on foot.
Hope this isn't true. |

I even read many reviews on the face-lifted Cayenne saying it uses an 8-speed ZF gearbox. However, in a recent Motortend comparison with the X6 M and Cayenne Turbo S, it stated the Cayenne still uses an Aisin gearbox, which isn't as good as the ZF. The average buyer won't care if it has a ZF or Aisin gearbox, but I care because it makes a huge difference in how the car drives. The most disappointing thing was the gearbox in the newer Cayenne's when I test drove it. I'm still confused if they're using ZF or Aisin because of these stupid reviews. One British reviewer on Youtube even said the Cayenne had a dual clutch transmission. lol.
