+1. For that matter if a reprogrammed controller gave a major improvement without a reduction in reliability then they would have done that as well. As it is BMW walks a fine line between performance and reliability, certainly leaning more to the former than the latter as compared to, for instance, Lexus. There's no such thing as a free lunch, ever, so whenever you make gains in one regard you're going to give up something in another.
