I have noticed over the years that many people don't wash their handa after using the restroom. I have seen people take a piss and just walked out. I have seen people take a crap and then basically turn on water, stick their hands in and out for about a second or two and walk out.

It's freaking disgusting, especially in the workplace since you will be touching stuff that others touch.

A story: went to a company picnic some years ago (I had left but still kept in touch with some folks there). Went to restroom to use the urinal. Director of engineering came in and used the one next to me. He said hi and I said hello back. When done I went to wash my hands. Was about to walk out when he was just about finished and walked out too. We walked back to the picnic, chitchatted for a minute or two and then he said "well it was nice seeing you again" and reached out his hand for me to shake. I was disgusted but shook it anyway and went straight to the restroom to wash my hands.

Laziness. Look around and you will see that the general public doesn't care about much. Hygiene and health are an after thought for most of Anerica. It's sad.

To play Devil's Advocate here I can kinda see the reasoning if you are just peeing. You are only touching your own skin honestly (unless you have a habit of pissing on your hands). The door handle on the restroom exit is likely dirtier than that. That said, I always wash my hands after using the facilities.

A more pertinent question, I think, is "Why don't people wash their hands before they use the bathroom?". Think about all the things you touch during your day (including other people). Then you go in and handle your "equipment" with those same hands...

Yup.

To take a leak, i don't touch a damn thing in the rest room except for my glock, belt buckle, and waste band of pants and underwear. No need to touch the unit even though as you pointed out, its likely cleaner than anything in the public restroom.

But if there are paper towels to dry my hands with, i'll take the opportunity to wash up just on principle.

First, I thought about your question a while ago and somewhat agree. But it really depends. I open doors with my fist/knuckles and don't touch door handles. I use my fingers to hold it like a cigarette when I shake it and hence don't "touch" my junk. If Inam actually touching it with fingertips I will wash before and after.

Regarding your first part, I would like to go to those people's desk, piss all over their stuff and see what they say. Doesn't matter if you're touching your skin. It's got pee on it. And with the moisture and bacteria does grow in damp and dark places.

All bets are off when you have to drop the kids off at the pool. Full sanitation measures have to be taken once they are safely in the pool.
