It's hard to figure BMW out. Tesla lights a fire under their ass with their Model 3 and it's 400,000 reservations, yet their response is another couple of space shuttle looking automobiles. Haven't they yet figured-out that the American consumer will go electric as long as those cars LOOK and DRIVE like the cars they are used to?
That's exactly how Tesla is doing it...selling very nice cars that happen to be electric, instead of pushing someone's "Back to the Future" fantasy on the perplexed public |

Looks great for what it is intended to be and used for. I think nay-Sayers need to think outside the box of "standard" internal combustion vehicle design. Just because others (like tesela ) choose to design their vehicles like "regular" cars doesn't make them better or non "regular" car designs worse.

I think the weird shape is a mistake from BMW i. If I were them I'd do a SUV shape and stance (which is what the market demands) with i-design elements and that's what would sell. bizarre shapes such as the i3 for example struggle to sell in volume numbers...

Are you saying that the i8 doesn't look " traditionally good " ? Even still.. Tesla is only doing so at a highly NON traditional pricepoint for an all electric vehicle. not sure how one compares a 100K Tesla to a 35K Prius, Chevy Volt, Etc.. http://www.usatoday.com/story/tech/n...2018/92363992/ " If you place an order for Tesla's forthcoming entry-level electric sedan today, you might have to wait until well into 2018 for it to glide into your garage. " On Tuesday, visitors to Tesla's website were greeted with a change in language that indicates new orders for the $35,000-and-up Model 3 will be filled in "mid-2018 or later Seeing as there isn't even a factory for it to be made in yet.. I would imagine that to certainly be the case. Last edited by M3 Adjuster; 10-18-2016 at 06:39 PM.. |

Holy crap or $h1t if it's okay to say that here. That thing looks hideous. Please tell me this is a joke? Why is it that the i8 can look so incredibly awesome and the others look so bad? The i3 grew on me but it's still not that beautiful.
I don't know what to say about this.

Why does BMW keep thinking that people who want electric cars want something that looks so out of the ordinary?
Why not just make fully electric versions of 3 or 5 series? Tesla Model 3 will mop the floor with the i brand. |

Must be priced the same as IC engine cars. Until then, we are going to keep on killing the planet

The only way to make electric cars appealing (rather than forcing through punitive taxation) is to make them look normal, at least for the time being. Fancy designs can follow for the next-generation but for now, stick to 'traditional'. |

These are cars coming completly out of customer surveys and committees. This is what the result is, something that has something for everyone. A Toyota. Venza. The one thing about a car for "Everyman" is that Everyman wants cheap stuff, so it has to be priced very very low.
Here is another similarly awesome design that had something for everyone but was ultimately done in by high pricing
