Oh well suppose the gap will come in handy if the f series so called security can be compromised

The OBD port is a standard across all vehicles, so why they think they can charge £34.99 for BMW and £44.99 for Land Rover is beyond me (apart from the media reports of those Brands getting nicked!).

Sussex Installations don't offer an option to select vehicle - they just sell 1 version.
I take it I can just purchase the Ford one as they are generic ?? Taking the piss charging more for the BMW 'version'??

Why not de-badge the higher range cars? E90's were regularly de-badged, but in the F series it seems less common. That way, a 330 x drive would look similar to a (less nickable) 320i to a scumbag. Admittedly, 335's etc would still stand out.

Can we get some reality in here please.

I have noticed that Xdrive owners are worried about thefts...

Well luckily the police will easily notice someone wandering around with a set of step ladders

If this affects newer models then slightly concerning, but not surprised that scumbag thieves are trying to be a step ahead of BMW after the last OBD software fix.

This said I do have GAP and it's insured, so not sure a piece of rubber will really delay a determined thief...?

Most thieves aren't looking to spend too long to nick a car, if this adds a minute or so, they may just smash the window and not bother.

We all have GAP and insurance, I'd rather not have the hassle of putting in for a new car.

For £14, it's not bad and far cheaper than what people will spend on mods.

I'd assume if these guys are looking for a quick in and out style job a simple steering wheel lock/bar would probably be enough to deter them?

I was sceptical about the big Disklok's marking the wheel so went for a bar type one instead. Doesn't mark the wheel and is yellow so visible from the outside. Takes seconds to remove and I throw it in the rear passenger side footwell so really not a hassle for me. May be something for you guys to consider too.

These may be just as effective as a plastic bung over the plug.

Diskloks are just stupidly big, stoplock pro maybe but again pain in the t1ts every day and tbh only useful if they are not going to break in and nick your keys.

Can you please tell how much it costs. Also, does it invalidate your warranty?

Thanks

Hi

Mine cost £399 fitted through Ram Mobile based in Wakefield. I'm not really worried about the warranty tbh but I don't believe installation involves cutting into any existing wiring etc so it should be fine.

This OBD port issue is a major flaw in the car's design. Is BMW responding to this in any way.

Can the facility to clone a key be isolated by coding - either by BMW or the cable and E-sys software?

Be interested to know this answer too?

I would definitely have the GHOST system if in didn't invalidate the warranty. Don't want to chance fucking up the electronics, just in case.

Anyone have a definitive answer? I may try and contact BMW to ask the question

I'm gonna just get it installed anyway, would rather still have my car and argue about warranty afterwards, am having it professionally installed so I'm sure it will be fine anyway, will report back on the post after install on Tuesday.
