Persistent Faults on 4GC
Our 65 plate 430d GC has had a ton of issues, most of which have been fixed by our local dealer but two faults remain.
The Bluetooth often drops calls or refuses to connect and the media whether it is the hard drive or Spotify just won't play most of the time, no sound will come out. BMW have had 7 goes at fixing this and each time all they do is confirm there's a fault code but only update the software, they won't do anything else for us. Local dealer is dreadful at returning our calls. We called BMW HQ and all they say is that it's the dealer's responsibility to fix it and they don't want to know. Can anyone advise whether we can still reject the car? Has anyone else had issues like this? It's over 1 year old now but the faults have been there from day 1. We feel badly let down by BMW. |

i had problems with my 13 plate f32, they changed the head unit and the fault still happens. I restore my iphone and there was no more problem for me.
You can always changed to another dealer, you should demand a brand new headunit since there is fault code. |

You are well outside of the range of rejecting the car unfortunately. Do you have an alternative dealer near you?
Some dealers are better than others and especially in the case here there seems to be a loss of good relations between you and the dealer. I encountered exactly the same sort of thing, moved dealer and couldn't be happier. Not so the previous salesman who has lost out on a sale as a result of the service department. |

You legally have 6 months.
Also the law changed in October 2015 so if you bought it before then it would be tricky but still not impossible. After 6 months you need to prove the issue was there within the first 6 months. You say the problems were there form day 1. When did you first bring it to the dealer's attention? Do you have proof? Then again rejecting is serious stuff. For bluetooth and spotify??? Not sure how a court will see this. Mind you it's in the original spec so should work. The problem is that HQ are correct in that the dealer is responsible and as most dealers are crap you need to push. But BMW HQ should at least liaise with you. You need to email them not call. I had an issue with an oil leak at 6 weeks old, they failed to fix it first time so I politely told them I'd give them one more go before outright rejection. I informed BMW HQ and the lease company by email who were both helpful and certainly had words with my dealer about the consequences. The dealer kept the car an extra few days to ensure it was really fixed. They knew they had no 3rd chance. I even rejected their 2 Series AT courtesy car as I was leasing a 335. I got a 5 series demonstrator. Take the car in with a list of your 7 visits and time wasted already and insist you want a courtesy car until they resolve these admittedly small but niggling issues permanently. Be firm, insistent and polite but accept nothing less. If you have proof that they have yet to resolve an issue you brought to their attention over a year ago, explain that this is their final chance. Tell them to refer the faults to BMW HQ and contact HQ yourself in writing rather than on the phone, explaining your desired course of action. Maybe cc the finance company too. |

Thanks for the advice, I think we will ask our local dealer to replace some of the hardware and not just update the car software. We will also try a phone restore. It's an iPhone we use. If that doesn't work we'll try another dealer.
It's a shame as it's a great car but niggles like this really bother the wife.(it's her daily driver). She only uses her car for the daily commute so not being to phone or listen to music on her longish journey when she wants really annoys her. It's understandable as this is a £40k car not a Hyundai. I drive an "inferior" A4, everything works fine on that. |

What's wrong with Hyundai? My wife has one and there are many aspects of it are better than my "superior" BMW. Not least of which is not sounding like a cement mixer full of bricks. You'll find the build quality better than any F3x

Me? I'm not expecting anything - I didn't make the unfavourable comment versus the Hyundai. I've owned BMWs since 1996 and the F3x is poor.

I can't remember back to 1996. But my F32 is better screwed together than the four E92's I've owned. So far 19000 rattle free miles. I have noticed the F30 isn't as well insulated as the F32.

Interesting you touch on the sound insulation as I always thought my dads f32 sounded quieter on the motorway etc than my old f31 and so does my f36!

A work mate runs an F34 330d. He drove mine and it was the first thing he commented on.

Persistence will pay off. The better half's DSG Golf had a gearbox software update on 30/12/16 and it ruined the car. Slow starts and jerky gear changes but no fault codes so the local Main Stealer told us we had to accept it.
I wrote to VW UK and have been in dialogue for 3 months. Last Friday they sent us to another local dealer who also said it had no faults but suggested all sorts of options. I said do them all!! Driving home last Friday lunchtime and the Mrs was smiling from ear to ear, she has her old car back. We were at the point of swapping it as she's had it 2 years but so glad we persisted. I'm sure if you get BMW involved they will help you. They certainly helped with my oil leak last year. customer.service@bmw.co.uk Best of luck |

Didn't mean to offend Hyundais but my personal view is that if something works on a cheaper car it should work on a more expensive premium one. Bluetooth isn't rocket science and should just work.

Strange my iPhone 6 6S and 7 have worked fine on both my F30's for Bluetooth calls.
Spotify is a different matter though I often have to restart the Spotify app on my phone and/or disconnect the phone from USB and reconnect to get it to play |

My iPhone 5,6 and 7 have all worked faultlessly (phone / text) too so it's not a phone issue.
