Unusual noise at tickover
Hello everbody. First post here so please be gentle
I recently bought a 2012 F30 330d, 73,000 miles with full BMW service history. I have noticed that at tickover there is a quiet but noticeable repetitive noise, a kind of ticking quack noise. It seems to go away with increased engine revs, and is definitely less apparent with the aircon switched on. I found a video on YouTube of the same sound from the same engine - - which does not elaborate on the cause of the noise. If anyone has any idea of what it might be, or a potential fix, or whether this is just a characteristic of the engine (whether it is even a problem!), it would be very much appreciated. Thank you in advance, Shay. |

Sounds like some sort of resonance or out-of-balance with the a/c fans, perhaps the iDrive or radio cooling fans.
Have you tried changing the a/c vent setting to see if it'a associated with the a/c? I wouldn't worry about it, personally, as it's not engine associated. |
