Your 2018 340 would use the new MPPSK or M Performance Power and Sound Kit. This has both the power upgrade (DME flash) and exhaust upgrade (cat back exhaust system) in one kit.

edit: link to the MPPSK thread http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sho....php?t=1304356

The valve actuator connection is the same as for the stock system so it just plugs right in.
Good to know, again. I did read that you can re-use the stock tips but I do like the M stainless ones so might go that route.

Oh, really? I looked at several listings on eBay and getbmwparts.com and there was no mention of this. I might have to email the sellers to confirm this. I was hoping I could install it myself.

I know one thing that changes is how the flap opens. It also deletes the fake engine sounds through the stereo.

Negative...no programming necessary to add an MPE, same as any other aftermarket exhaust. The flap control is exactly the same as the stock system.

Interesting you have dyno sheets with the make of the dyno on it?

Reason I asked was a Dinan Stage 3 rated by Dinan web site in the 400 HP range was slower then my JB4 car that was rated much lower.

No downpipes on mine just a JB4 & FMIC. VS Dinan Full Stage 3. Both cars otherwise identical 335is down to engine, 7DCT transmission & options

Real world Drag Times clock listings. Both cars improved over time mine with a higher level COBB/JB4 stack. BuraQ when he removed the Dinan Tune & went with another vendor eventually running in to the 11 second bracket.

One of the very interesting things about Dinan is its almost impossible to find any time slip listings of them from the drag strips. Drag Times has about 475 time slip entries for 335/135/340/440 & if there are 10 Dinan listings it would be a lot.

At dealer now waiting for MPE to be installed. Having them take a look at a weird intermittent high pitched noise on occasion which a few people said might be a differential. My horn is also being replaced due to it not working properly.

SA did admit that it may be a differential so we'll see... Keep ya posted!

So first impressions of the MPE are pretty positive. There's a slight tone difference in Comfort mode, a bit more throaty, but not by much. I'm happy with that because I mostly drive in Comfort to work in the morning and I would imagine it would get pretty annoying after a while if it was constantly louder than what I'm used to.

Boy oh boy does that change when you switch over to Sport mode. Complete 180 in sound. It comes alive. It grumbles, burbles and sounds just plain mean. This is the way it SHOULD sound when you drive this car off the lot. The stock exhaust is plain timid compared to it.

The SA tells me that it's going to take a bit for the MPE to settle. After a while it's going to get deeper and more "grumbly". I can't wait. Totally worth it and I'm super happy.

Next month MPPK ?

N54's. Advertised numbers that Dinan used for their stage 3 flash at the time was 400 horsepower.

So the comparison was $3000+ 400HP Dinan vs $900 362HP BMS

One car had $3000+ worth of Dinan the other $900 for a JB4 & FMIC.

Old Dyno for the JB4 car at the time of the 12.5/114 run:

Red & Yellow lines were working out shift points.

The real key is the terminal speed of 114MPH vs 108MPH that indicates which system was generating more horsepower. If you notice the Dinan car had a better 60 ft time but still losses in total ET. That's the additional horsepower in the BMS moving the car faster through the 1/8 mile point & gaining more MPH on the backend 1/8 to 1/4 mile where the real horsepower race takes place.

As far as my experience goes nothing has changed through N55 or B58. Dinan still claims crank horsepower while everybody else claims wheel horsepower.

My main performance car now is the 2200lb COBRA but I still have a JB4 on the N55 engined 135IS. My 440 B58 has the factory BMW kit which dynos around what the early 335is JB4 did. Time slips in the high 12's with speeds around 110mph seem to support the dynos.

My 435 N55 MPPK/MPE was the slowest of the group. Bought that when I bought the COBRA kit so there was never really any reason to do anything with it.

This the main reason Dinan never caught on with the racers was the very high expense with a very average improvement. It could compete with low end mods by BMS, COBB & Proceed but the guys who really serious & wanted to race could not get the power out of it. A big chunk of the Dinan price was paying for the insurance policy & not performance parts some of which were rebranded from other manufactures. Its also in their interest not to push the performance envelope so that you did not break parts & have a claim.

This the SA got that right. There is some packing inside the muffler, less then stock but more then the original N54 MPE which has none. The packing will eventually settle, compress & get out of the way while the sound comes up.

If you don't want to go aftermarket, I have done both, get the MPPK. You will feel a difference in the car.

Here's a quick video of a warm start and a few revs before and after the valve opens. You can hear the valve open at the 1:03 mark. Sorry about the ghetto filming, I just got to work and decided to take a quick recording:

Just did the MPPK yesterday, here are few things I noticed for first 100 mls:

1) Comfort mode feel like old sport mode. Partial response is much improved / more linear. Automatic shifts are faster. Now it feels very good for daily drive no need to "wake up" the car with DS mode.

2) Sport mode feels very similar to the M240i MPPSK I test-drove last month: very aggressive off the line and pulls much harder towards red line. Mine is regular automatic (205) used to feel little Meh now it shift very quick auto or manual mode.

3) Sound: with MPPK you get a lot more music than straight MPE. Lots of pops / bubbles in sport mode even more than my MINI Cooper S F57 (read pop corn machine). The upgrade intake box seems to give more definition to the engine sound across the rev range. Upshift also sounds a lot meaner than before thanks to faster more aggressive shift and probably some ASD tuning (the tech mentioned briefly in MPPK/MPPSK Change to ASD).

In short I am happy with the initial MPPK + MPE result.
