Try contacting the manufacturer of the transmission. Conversely any reputable shop should be able to rebuild a MT.

My understanding is that remanufactured have brand new internals whereas the case is "used".

"remanufactured" means different things to different people. When I rebuilt a transmission for myself, I always replaced all the synchro rings, the spinning bearings or bushings along the top shaft, the front and rear bearings and what is usually needle bearings at the split in the top shaft. I could normally get the bearings at a bearing store for 1/4 the price of identical "car bearings" from the dealer. I also replaced the detente ball and spring for the reverse gate. I haven't done the BMW 6MT but I assume there are also similar springs to make the shift lever home at 3rd-4th gear. I also examined shifting forks and the shifting gears (3 in a 6MT) for wear and looked at the detente balls and springs. I only replaced gears and shafts if they appeared damaged or burnt. I also didn't do anything with the reverse gear or shaft unless there was a problem (not much wear) I was doing them for my use, and I didn't want to do it twice.

I think most rebuilt units have less done to them.

I have also seen transmissions that were pressure washed used units that were simply sold as remanufactured. I would always prefer to take mine to a well-regarded shop and tell them what's wrong and what you want replaced. If you need to buy a different one listed as remanufactured, ASK WHAT WAS REPLACED AND WHAT WAS DONE.

Only from BMW. Otherwise, you'll have to source a used 6MT. There is no rebuild kit available.
