N20 build - what next?
Unsure what to upgrade next on the n20 328ix! Although we street drive our car, we're focusing most performance for drag and show. Here's what it currently has:
ENGINE: - Burger Tuning jb4 - FTP Motorsports chargepipe - VRSF 5" street HD intercooler - GFB DV+ - K&N drop-in EXHAUST: - 4.5" VRSF catless DP - Straight pipe SUSPENSION: - H&R sports springs Here's how it looked like stock (plus tinted lights) https://flic.kr/p/2e7NdLg and currently: https://flic.kr/p/23vkT82 I heard our tuner/performance shop that an intake on these engines would actually rob it by ~5hp+ (hence why we went with the k&n drop in filter). They usually take the cones off during dyno runs to get a better HP reading. Although they sound sweet, I don't see the point spending 500$ to get less HP... any thoughts on this? We haven't gotten a complete dyno run on it, but we're estimating she's in the 300hp+. DRAG TIMES: The best we've had on 1/4 mile drag is 12.9, but usually we're in the 13.0-13.2 depending on temperature. Jb4 map 2. WISHLIST: - Upgraded rods & pistons - Oil cooler - Air Lift Performance suspension - bootmod3 has anyone went from jb4 to bm3? Thoughts/dyno runs? What do you guys recommend? We would like to consistently hit the 12's. This summer we're hoping try E85 and see if that makes a difference. We were hoping to get to it last year, but bimmer was running wonky and had it towed to upgrade the timing chain guides to prevent the pos failing 2012-2014 oem ones instead, and then drag strips had closed for the season. https://flic.kr/p/2e7NcTp Any input and suggestions as what to do next? I'm scared that big turbo = piston cracking and rod bearings failing.

Pretty maxed out as far as bolt ons go
LCI tail lights and gloss black m performance kidney grilles would both be nice additions

You'll need less boost for the same power with a big turbo. Ask the other guys here who have installed their MHI but haven't switched to forged rods.

The stage 2 turbo can actually make a little more power at a little less psi and more conservative tuning, which would make it actually more safe/reliable than the factory turbo. Now if you installed the stage 2 turbo and pushed it to the limit, not so much....
Do you still have the 2.25" bottle neck where the down pipe meets the exhaust? |

I think a big turbo is the next logical step. If you keep boost reasonable and switch to a good flash tune, or better yet a custom dyno tune, you'll be in good shape most performance and reliability wise, even more reliable than now with the JB4. BM3 is the platform for both custom and OTS flash.
Interested to hear more about how you got into the 12's on 93 though. Looks like you have a pretty basic stage 2 setup, so 12's is a damn good time. Must've been great conditions. Best I got was 13.08 in what I thought were good conditions. DA was about 100ft

You got it man! lol That's me, that video shows the best pass I was able to make. Can't remember the mile per hour but it was 13.088. The details are in the description of the video lol.

Any catless DP will give you a CEL, and pretty much any catted DP will as well. I say "pretty much any" because all the ones I know of will give you a CEL, but it's not an impossibility that you find one that won't.

Does bm3 prevent the dash lighting up light a christmas tree as well, similar to jb4? We're strongly considering switching up to it, our performance mechanic has advised to do the switch this as well.

Either way, I cannot recommend BM3 strongly enough. I've been running stage 2 with a catless DP and absolutely love it. The fact that it's a flash, the customizability, and the ability to datalog and read codes makes it an absolute no-brainer.
