So now we have a practical car ('14 335i xDrive), complete with four doors, an automatic transmission, and the thing even has all-season tires. I'd like to make it a little more fun to drive, but I want to keep it super stealth - it must be easy to drive, it must be quiet, and most importantly I must have some plausible deniability if my wife asks me if I modified it.

Seems like a chip of some sort is a no-brainer. But are there any other power-makers that won't be an obvious tipoff? It sounds like even a catted downpipe will make the car substantially louder.
For stealth something like JB4 is a good starting point.. Any other bolt ons are pretty obvious. Maybe an anodized black Evolution Racewerks Charge Pipe. Looks pretty OEM.

Drop in filter as well maybe..

I doubt your wife would notice any of the following...

Upgraded FMIC
Drop in air filter
High Flow Catted DP
BootMod3 + tune

With a custom tune, you could add +60hp/+80trq

High Flow Catted downpipes will changed the exhaust tone.. Whether she notices or not we have no idea

not even from the bank account??

The DP + tune suggestion is sounding pretty good. Exhaust tone change is just fine so long as it doesn't get massively louder. Anyone in Seattle area with catted downpipe willing to let me have a listen?

Awesome thread, thank you everyone for your posts. Really appreciate it.

Looks like there are no bootmod3 dealers near me, and I don't really want to get into a whole science experiment of futzing with it. Might go JB4.

Long term reliability: Any high mileage N55+JB4 owners? How durable is the AT + xDrive?

I know this typically tends to be the common opinion around these parts but as someone with only 30k miles the DME unlock makes me a bit uneasy should the dealer go poking around for some reason.

JB4 I can in theory pop on and off anytime I ever need to bring it in.

OP - I'd take that into consideration if concerned about the wifey's reaction.

Look up Racechip XLR with Blutooth.

Look into the MPPK or MPPSK or DINAN.

Look into the sponsers (http://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/for...ay.php?f=398)p
page on this forum.....lots of aftermarket bolt-ons that are effective and cheaper than BMW.
I have a Dinan stage 2 for sale that I’m not using anymore. Make me an offer

If it's EWG, put MHD Stage 1 on it and you'll have great gains. If it's PWG, put a Stage 1 turbo on with everything else stock and a custom tune.
