Oil and gas

Anyone ever smelt their oil filter hole or cap?

Does it have a gas/petrol smell?

It could happen, especially with cold weather + short trips...

Hi,

Any chance of checking yours? 😅👍

Mine has had fresh oil recently and smells again, but remains clean and vicious.

I've checked few days ago, it does have a slight gasoline smell, but nothing to serious.

Yes, just did my oil change, 500 miles ago, I noticed that smell from the oil I drained out. It's always had that type of smell.
Also if you have the stock intake, that smell comes out of there too, it concentrates in the paper filter.

Will have to have a sniff in the intake box too.

Oil was changed recently and no one mentioned anything.

How strong is the smell of fuel/gas when you changed the oil? Is your current oil like it now?

On a side note, I've just got ista+ and can't find how to access smooth running to check the injectors?

Used to be able to do this INPA with my old m57. Ista mentioned smooth running is based of the crank sensor. Guess that means there's no data logging for injector values?

Thanks

lol, I usually do my oil changes at work, but this last time I decided to do it at home. When I was pouring the old oil into oil jug for disposal, the fumes literally did get me a bit light headed.
Only had 6k on that old old. But like I said it's always had that type of smell since I got the car at 40k miles I'm at 80k now.

Garage List
Its normal for DI engines to have a heavier smell of gas in the oil, and its one more reason to do short OCI's, as gas slowly gets mixed with the oil, it increases the chance of LSPI, and eventually it can start affecting the lubrication qualities of the oil.

Thanks for the reply. Glad it's normal, luckily had some good responses on here

Plan on changing oil every year, or 4K miles, which ever is sooner.

Oil wise, what is everyone using on the N20 with 90k miles?
