On the market for a 440i... mppsk or aftermarket?
Currently looking for a 440i msport coupe in the UK
I would love one with the mppsk on it already. Is this the best way to go or get an aftermarket exhaust and map put on the car? |

I bought my 2016 340i in 2016 and the tuning options at that time were pretty limited. I bought a service loaner with 3K miles on it and paid for the dealership to install the MPPSK kit as part of the sale. And it was expensive. I drove the car with that and a JB4 in place for several years and enjoyed it immensely. Now that flash options and many exhaust options are available, you can go a lot faster for a lot cheaper with a flash tune + aftermarket exhaust. In my opinion, many of the aftermarket exhausts don't sound as good as the MPPSK exhaust and don't offer the same flexibility with the valved flap, which makes a huge different in how loud the car is, especially if you plan to install a catless downpipe. There is also the warranty implications. MPPSK + JB4 is arguably one of the safest methods to go fast and sound good without putting your warranty at risk (although all tunes have some level of risk, blah blah blah, let's not start that argument again) I think ultimately it comes down to your pocket book and your comfort level with warranty risk. Absolute cheapest route to go very fast + be loud= aftermarket exhaust + flash tune (you pick your favorite brands of each) Lowest risk to warranty= MPPSK + JB4 Highest cost (but in my opinion has the best sound and best performance)= MPPSK + catless + flash tune, but obviously from my sig, I'm biased

I wouldn't mind going mad with all the mods like decatting etc but the checks are strict in Northern Ireland and probably wouldn't get away with it for long |

There is a business near me arguably the best in the country, and he says if I get a car with the mppsk he can map it further up to 400/428 for stage 1 and for stage 2 420/457 seems like pretty good gains! Think I might go down this route instead of bootmod3 or jb4

it doesnt. the b58 comes in varying power levels for different vehicles but after a flash they all make similar power.

Piggyback tunes such as JB4 can stack "on top of" MPPSK by spoofing psi values and forcing the engine to increase targets.

Keep in mind cars with MPPSK have the same engine with the same internal and transmission. Their HP/TQ limit is the same as a car without the MPPSK.

Now I'm wondering should I just get the m performance exhaust and a map from this guy and save some money from not having BMW do the flash on top. |

Just me but the MPPSK sounds like a great all rounder.. You get a slight increase in power - not too much- and a nice sounding exhaust that burbles and pops quite a bit more. On top of that you get the reassurance of the quality...

The MPPSK exhaust is a good one. And comes with the best warranty on the market, so for £1800 is not a bad choice.
You can always BM3 later if you find you want more power. I'd skip the tuner option. |

Does the tuner part of it not mean the burbles and pops happen? Or is that the MP exhaust that they come with?

When you want more power, you can go for something like BM3 and flash it yourself. No need for an aftermarket tuner, the majority are a waste of money. |

I see what you mean now, thanks for the info! Think I'll go mppsk then. I read that insurer's around here don't mind that because it's an OEM part from bmw so shouldn't get stung to bad!
