F36 RWD Coilovers - KW-V2 or V3
Recently called KW to see if we're able to fit the KW-V3's onto the F36 platform and they gave me the part number 3522000L. I have yet to see any threads with anyone rocking V2's or V3's and have seen multiple threads saying that we're very limited on what fits our vehicle. Can anyone chime in their experiences and whether it's worth the extra costs of getting the V2/V3 over the V1. TIA!
Will not be tracking the car. Just daily driving and looking to completely close the wheel gap with tires tucking the rear fender a tad bit. Seen this info from another post: - Street Comfort: offers height + rebound adjustment; linear springs (more comfortable ride) - read these don't go that low - V1: offers height adjustment + pre-set damping; progressive springs - V2: offers height + rebound adjustment; progressive springs - V3: offers height + independent rebound and damping adjustment; progressive springs |

Isn't an F36 is a F32 just 4 door, with a hatch.
So any F32 RWD will fit F36 RWD and F32 xdrive fit F36 xdrive. Only thing is the spring rate will not be fine tuned with the F36 front and rear weight ratio. PS I'm in the same boat as you... looking for suspension or coilovers setup... keep reading all this forum info. |

If you're not going to track, the V2/V3 is overkill imo. V1s were just fine on the road when I had them and I'm sure they'd of held up to trackdays too.
As far as f32 coils on f36, you're going to be undersprung in the rear due to the extra weight of the f36 compared to the f32. But some makers (like Bilstein) use the same PN across all f3x/f2x fwiw. My b14s were super undersprung for my f31 but the spring rates on there weren't too great to begin with for me.

As with the OP usage.... as a DD I doubt it will be that big of a difference but V3 is overkill...v1is enough and street comfort is probably best. |

I guess it wasn't straight to the point. What I'm saying is if there nothing specific for an F36 out there we could always use the F32, we can call the company if they will make one for the F36, will they do it? Don't know. Some coilover out there will accept different spring. You can do that if you really want to dial in everything. I really don't want to spend to much money to buy a custom set of coilovers that why we just looking at what is available on the market. |

Looking to entirely close the wheel gap for both the front and back. I heard the Street Comforts don’t allow you to go that low. If the v1’s are good enough then I’ll definitely look into those. If you rode the same ride height for the v1 vs the v2/v3, does the dampening option help at all for ride comfort?

KW V1 coilovers lowering range: 1.6" to 2.6". KW V2 and V3 coilovers offer the same lowering range. What is your perspective how comfortable you want the ride to be, although this is perhaps the most subjective topic? Another way to ask the same question is whether you want to have additional flexibility to tune suspension behavior after lowering the vehicle and closing the wheel gap? If yes - I suggest KW V3 coilovers which offer individually adjustable compression and rebound controls. KW V1 coilovers have pre-configured damping. No adjustments. |

Think of comfort as the ability to accommodate a bump in the road while maintaining suspension geometry. In other words, the driver perceives comfort when shocks-and-springs-working-as-one compress as quickly as possible and rebound as quickly as possible. The first phase in perceiving comfort is compression and then rebound. If compression controls are not available, well - that's the risk with applicable buyer be ware caveats. |

- V3: offers height + independent rebound and damping adjustment; progressive springs Does that mean V3's offer both the compression and rebound? Not exactly sure what they mean by "independent" when each coilover has it's own dampening stick. Would you recommend just getting the V1? Never sat in anyone's vehicle before who had a set of KW's so it's hard for me to justify if the extra costs will be necessary for the choice of extra comfort. It's hard finding a used set compatible with the F36 so I may bite the bullet and grab a new set to go with the lifetime warranty benefit |

Most coilovers out there adjust both compression and rebound with each adjustment on the knob, or in the V2's case, just rebound. That means the compression and rebound forces are coupled together and you're stuck with whatever ratio/bias the mfg made it with.

That's a great deal! I ended up going with ST-XA coilovers which is a company under KW because I live in a state that never snows. Got them installed 2 weeks ago and they're amazing! It's the same as the V2's except steel constructed struts

I have "F31-Specific" coilovers on my F32. No issues. You can search the product number on KW's website to find the specs on the shocks/springs. The only difference is some models have different rear springs. At the end of the day it depends on what the manufacturer thinks fits best. Some coilovers are stiffer than others, some have stiffer springs in the rear vs front and vice versa. But the rear springs are linear and easiest to swap if you get a coilover kit. |
