F30 320D - If Low Fuel, Engine Juddering/Stalling
Hi!
First post, I am sorry if I’ve posted in the wrong section. Wondering if I could get some advice please? My 2012 F30 320D has developed an issue whereby when the low fuel indicator displays (at around 50miles of diesel) the car will start to perform differently. It will judder and the rev counter will flicker/lower and the car feels like it’s misfiring or struggle to stay running. When I put the car in neutral, it is not able to maintain the revs and stalls. It’s hit or miss when trying to restart it and can require several attempts before it fires up. The quick fix is to simply fill it up - today I was caught short with 50 miles, experiences issues above, put £10 of diesel in tank and issues disappeared. Any ideas as to what this could be? If fuel pump, wouldn’t that be constant, rather than on low fuel? Had the fuel filter replaced around one year ago. It’s clear that the trigger is low fuel, perhaps the dirt from tank is being pumped around the system and causing the problems? Would make sense because all the issues go away once I fill up? Any help is greatly appreciated. Thanks, Dave. Last edited by mcgada; 09-21-2020 at 05:51 PM.. Reason: Spelling |

Could be the fuel level sending unit/ float not reading accurately and you're lower on fuel thank you actually are?
You could try to figure this out by filling up completely and seeing how much fuel it takes vs. the size of the fuel tank. |
