Anyone from the Wilmington NC area?
Recently relocated to Wilmington, NC - interested in meets/drives, etc. I've seen quite a few BMWs in the area, but so far haven't seen anything here on the forums related to the area.

C'mon, Wilmington - I've seen dozens of BMWs around here...surely one of you is on this forum!

FYI - the Cape Fear Area of Tarheel Chapter, BMW CCA, monthly dinner is every 3rd Wednesday of the month at 6:30PM at the Gusto Grille, which is located in the Harris Teeter shopping center just off Highway 17 in Leland/Belville, about 1 mile south of the 74/76 split. Non-members who are BMW or Mini owners are most welcome to join us and find out more about club membership, swap stories, and enjoy an evening among fellow enthusiasts.

Alpina,
We've suspended the monthly dinners due to lack of participation, but FYI, the Raleigh Area group of the Tarheel Chapter is heading down to Carolina Beach this coming Saturday, March 18. They'll be meeting those of us who are joining them at the Ocean Grille. Come on down and join the fun!

Welcome to the club and the area. Not a lot of organized activities here from a club standpoint, but I and a couple others try to meet up with the Raleigh group on some of their activities that take them down this way or somewhere in between ILM and RDU. We recently went to the Pinehurst Concours, as an example, and arrived there at about the same time they did. There is also a Cars n' Coffee every 1st Saturday morning at the Red Robin in Mayfaire, and there's generally a pretty good turnout of all types of cars.

Thanks - I'm well aware of the Raleigh comings and goings. I get the Tarheel newsletter. Apparently most of the BMW folks down here aren't really interested in organized events.

Hey guys I'll be relocating to the Wilmington area in June 2018 and 1) Would definitely be down for meets and 2) Need a mod friendly BMW service center, so looking for recommendations.
Thanks,

We have a cars n' coffee every 1st Saturday of the month at the Red Robin in the Mayfaire shopping center, but not much other than that. I tried for a year to organize events with my fellow BMW CCA members to no avail. There are about 115 members in the Cape Fear area, plus numerous others who are not members but drive BMWs. I have one neighbor who had 3 (recently sold his 1989 325xi), and several others here in Brunswick Forest with 1 or more. The Raleigh folks come down this way a few times a year as well.
Regarding mod-friendly shops, Wilmington Motor Works is one that I've used for out-of-warranty service and have found them to be reliable and reasonably priced. They're located on Old Dairy Road off North Market Street. What brings you to the Wilmington area, Jared?

Thanks roundel335 !! I'll need to find a BMW service center as my car is under extended warranty and extended maintenance plan until 9/2019 or 100,000 miles. Anywhere between Wilmington and Raleigh would work as I might be living half the week in Raleigh and the other half in Winnabow. I知 from Raleigh originally. I went to NC State and graduated with a Mechanical Engineering degree. My parents live in Winnabow and my sister and her family live in Supply. I知 moving back to NC for a few reasons.
1. My father is getting up in age and is having a hard time taking care of the homestead. Doing simple things like yardwork has become a struggle since his back surgery. 2. My wife and I want to make a baby so it would be nice to be close to family. Grandparents are a huge help. 3. My parents are going to give my wife and I land to build on in Winnabow (small house, big shop ;-) I知 unsure of how it痴 all going to play out, but it痴 looking like I値l most likely find work in the Raleigh area. I知 an experienced mechanical design engineer (consumer and commercial product design) and there isn稚 much work in the Wilmington area. There are tons of opportunities in Raleigh. I知 working on starting my own consulting business, so I can work from home and live in Winnabow full time, but until that picks up steam I値l need some steady income.

BMW of Wilmington is on New Centre drive, and they have a very good service department. I can give you the name of my Service Advisor, and I'm sure he'll take care of you. I've also got Extended Warranty out to 2020, but for things like oil change, brake fluid/coolant flush, etc., Wilmington Motor Works will save you some $$$. There are some good companies in the area, notably Corning (fiber optics), PPD (pharma research), and a number of smaller ones. The job market is tight, but it's out there. Raleigh has more opportunities, as does Charlotte, but there should be some remote-worker jobs out there, particularly if you start your own firm. It's good that you have family nearby, and you will probably enjoy the slower pace of life down this way and the absence of Interstates, except for I-140, which will take you from south of Leland on US 17 directly across the river to the north side of Wilmington and connect with I-40 to Raleigh. It's opening next month. PM me and I'll send you some contact info for BMW of Wilmington, etc.

Brunswick Forest here...good to see another local BMW fan. We have an informal group from around the area that meets once a month, but we'va had to suspend that due to the Pandemic. Hopefully we'll be cranking things up again by early summer.
