My F31 320d M Sport - 437M, Eibachs, Depos, M Performance
Hi all,
I appreciate this is just another 320D, I won't be going out of this world with it or doing anything extreme, it's mainly for me to keep track of what I do. I will do some write up of parts I fit and reviews. I am an aircraft engineer, I love to tinker, I've been on the tools for 25 years and I got in to 3D printing last year, I have owned a couple of hundred cars in my time, some fast, some slow and old but I worked on them all. I had an E91, I loved it but at 161k it was time to move it on, I found this October 2014 320D M sport on the Autotrader, it was advertised by Big Motoring World in Kent. I secured the car, and went to collect it a week later. 22.01.2021 Arrival at Big MW to collect the car, it was an afternoon collection and they had left it in the shade so it was still frozen over, the fuel gauge was below minimum and reading 0 miles which was disappointing and I expected a bit better, not a full tank but not a couple of mm below the empty line either. While inspecting the car I found the passenger side rear footwell soaked, the front windscreen was so condensated and the temp so low the inside was frozen, I continued and took the car anyway knowing I would fix it. Black double slat grills pre bought and waiting for me at home. Day 1: Last edited by YODI; 02-13-2021 at 05:37 PM.. |

My E91 had some BBS LM copies I bought brand new, I love the LM wheel and wanted to put the, straight on to the F31, so on my way home I took both cars to my mates garage and swapped the wheels over.
The truth is, 5 minutes after fitting them I realised I didn't like them on the F31 at all, it aged the car and it didn't look how I'd hoped. My E91 and F31, E91 on loaner wheels to get the TPMS out Wheels fitted, trying to think it looked good but the reality is it didn't. Wheels swopped over, the E91 looked much better on the F wheels, it made it look newer |

I didn't like the small business screen, some time researching lead me to Droid UK buying one of their android units, it took 30 minutes to fit and looks much better, lots to still play with as Ive barely used any of the features. I'm very happy with the unit, their customer service was great too. Yes lots of companies sell the same/similar units, they probably all come from China but I was happy with this lot so they got my money. Purchased from here, £399 delivered using the code FB20 - https://www.facebook.com/DroidUKOfficial/ |

I then realised the headlights were shitty, I pulled some favours and got this genuine pair of adaptive xenons for cheap cheap, it was short-lived, I looked in to fitting them and making the adaptive aspect work and I didn't really want to get involved, so I listed them on the forum and FB.
People took the piss that I wanted to direct swop them for a pair of used depos as one was damaged but perfectly usable so I ebayed them, I got £550 cash and bought a brand new pair of depos for £450 and enough money to buy all the bulbs needed, win win. While all this was going on, an M performance front splitter was bought from Mstyle in Romford, good quick delivery without issue. I also bought genuine side skirt extensions from ebay and genuine side vinyl to match. |

02.02.2021 - 12 ays of owning. Wheel time.
1st world problem, the wheels drove me mad, I loved the LM's, I put them on my E36 M3 10+ years ago and my E91 last year but they looked rubbish on the F31. Time for a change, I narrowed it down to 704M and 437M, I'm confident I made the right wheel choice. 437m bought. 265.35.19 Dunlops sourced for the rear, 6mm all round. 235.35.19 chosen for the front, Brand new Dunlops (this tyre choice turned out to be a mistake) An immaculate set of 437M from an M4 sourced, they had been refurbed with awesome tyres I'd have to sell due to the M sizes of them. I liked the fact they weren't black, I didn't want that on my black car. |

Fed up with 2 things, the cup holder and the phone holder, or lack of. After more reading and scouring this forum, I went with a Rennline one, I wanted one that was discreet and magnetic. I did not want a windscreen or cd player mounted one. First off, it is not cheap, it cost me £60 delivered which is a lot of money for a phone mount, but, it is a nice piece of kit, it's very discreet, quick and easy to mount and it's solid. I do like it, I'm happy I bought it but I do think it should be more £45/50 all in than £60 but I would buy it again. I bought it from 911Design who seem to stock it here in the UK, it was £43 + Vat and shipping, but ends up at £60.72 with vat & courier delivery. PS. Again, like my Droid post, I have no affiliation to Rennline or 911 design in any way. Link below: https://www.design911.co.uk/fu/prod1...--F80-/#143601 |

The front tyres looked awful, 235.35.19 on a 9J They had stretch and looked too small, the car drove great but I hated the look, more research on here and asking lots of people their tyre size, I opted for 245.35.19. 235.35.19 this is how they looked: Today I went back to my pals tyre shop, 245.35.19 went on, Dunlops again, I can't tell you how happy I am, the stretch has almost gone and the extra sidewall height looks so much better. No great pics as the cars filthy even though I washed the wheels today. Wheels washed, Salt killed my LM's I can't let that happen again. . Remap day, today I had the car remapped by a friends relative, he did my E91 which I did 15,000 miles in mapped and I loved it, so I chose him again for this one. It's only a light stage 1 map, he is called Tuning technics and can be found here - https://www.facebook.com/Tuningtechnics No pics of the map etc, but the difference is noticeable. Last week I ordered my springs, I went for Eibach Pro because I didn't want a huge drop and I wanted the same comfort as standard, or as near as.
I ordered from German eBay, cost £140 delivered, £200 ish everywhere else in the Uk. Yesterday a friend of mine started the fit for me, when the car was jacked up, leaking shock absorbers were found, 3 of them leaking and one of those was empty and did nothing. A bit disappointing as I've only done 1500 miles in it since I bought it last month and it had done 10 miles since they had MOT'd it. I had to source 4 shocks, I called a company I know well, they had KYB on the shelf so that's what I went with. We carried on fitting it all up, while cleaning and lubricating everything on the way. While the car was up in the air, I fitted the front M Performance style front splitter, it's quite a good fit, not perfect but good, I was surprised it came without any fitting screws or hardware but for £100 it's good. I bought this from MSTYLE. I also bought genuine MPerformance side skirt extensions, I bought genuine decals/strips too but I haven't fitted those yet and not sure I will. |

Thanks mate, I know it's nothing special but I like working on my own cars and it's nice to look back later and remember what was done and when.

I managed to give the car a quick wash today and take a couple of photos, I also played with the TPMS sensors and coded the temps in with Carly.
I didn't have any tyre shine but was just happy it was clean again. |

Another small update, yesterday it was Depo fit day.
Fitting the headlights took just over a couple of hours, the lights were already set up with the bulbs all fitted. I installed them with a mate, and we didn't remove the bumper. We took off the front wheels and removed the fwd arch liners for access, not a bad job at all. |

Here are some clean photos I managed to take today.
I think I am finished with the outside but I'm not 100%, I have the twin tailpipe exhaust to fit yet too. |

What an amazing transformation so far. My 340i has crappy halogens and I really need those depos. Your f31 reminds me of my f31 330d. Absolutely loved that car.
