Emissions test with Tune
Whose running a tune in Ca and has passed an emissions test? I'm assuming stage 1 that it would pass as long as no cel and factory dp is on?

I've heard from a tuner they have had customers fail just for having mhd installed? I would like to beable to run a dorch fuel pump is the main reason. Car wouldn't run on factory tune wouldn't work for testing.

I vaguely recall someone saying they passed with a OTS tune and OEM DP, however not 100% certain.
I was also wondering how advanced the OBD2 checks are for emissions - i thought they just checked for CELs, emissions monitors, etc - i didnt think they were sophisticated enough to check your software versus OEM software... but i could be wrong. |

just to be on the safe side and because it doesn't take long, just flash your stage 0 map before emissions, it should still give you options for the dorch pump too right? I've never flashed stage 0, so I have to check if the "map write options" are still there.
edit: also, you have a 2015, so you have until 2023 before your first emission test in california.. you only pay a smog abatement fee until the car is 8 years old and requires an actual test.

I'm quoting a statement thejeremyman9 made in an exchange regarding your question on a different thread with me.
" in California as of summer last year, you will need to reinstall your stock tune and relock the DME (in addition to having the hardware needed for emission monitors, etc). That should be enough as it doesnt sound like the check will be able to determine if the car was historically reprogrammed (like a flash counter), but just that it has programming from the approved list when tested. EDIT: The other thing worth nothing is that this would be a major concern if you have a upgraded HPFP that requires the flash option to function properly because you would likely be in a catch 22 situation, unable to flash back to stock even temporarily. " Basically, CA can now detect if your DME has been remapped and it's an automatic referal to State Ref if you fail. |

That is definitely the best way to do it but I guess I'm wondering if anyone has ever tested this. I'm in NC with looser regulations but if it doesnt work for sure then I would just flash back no problem. But if no one has tested while tuned whats the worst that could happen for me testing it out? having to get a retest later in the week?

Its been tested here in CA. The person had to flash back to stock and relock the DME to pass the state ref inspection. I'm not sure this effort is being conducted in other states. CA tends to lead the way when it comes to strict emission standards.

I don't know for sure if other states have followed. I thought FastF30 passed on NY while still tuned, but perhaps he can confirm. NY and the tri state area are fairly closed behind CA in terms of regs, but still more lenient. I would just do research for NC specifcally. |

I have been and the direct information is hard to find. I was contemplating testing it but I think I'll just flash to stock and re lock the DME and not waste time or money at this point.

So we have it on record, I passed NC emissions with stock exhaust set up and BM3 S1 tune installed. It would seem BM3 does not have an effect on the software communications, except for maybe in CA...

I live in Cali, and just passed my smog last December. Car is a 2013 pwg 335I with Bootmod3 stage 1 and stock exhaust. Flashed it back to stock map and it passed no problems. Just be sure to drive it ~75 miles, so that the emissions are logged in the ecu.

That's good news..... Now if we could only get an upgraded HPFP to run on OEM mapping.

I Am due in June for my first test, here in CA. Swapped my stock DP in and put MHD on stock settings. Did you have a Catless on before and assuming you did how long to achieve readiness? And, did you do a drive cycle procedure--I have seen some of these that get everything ready fast. I Would like to get my test done this week and put my pipe back on.

I'm from Cali. I had to reinstalled the cat, removed the aFE intake for stock, reverted BM3 back to stock software to passed last week. I didn't have to lock the DME. Monitors took less than 50mls to go all green. They didn't say anything about my custom cat-back CG Precision exhaust.
