I’m rather hoping things settle down next week once all the loons have full tanks.

Got half a tank in the 4 series which will last until next weekend but ultimately will have to fill up at some point. I tend to fill up weekly when I do the food shop which gets me from half tank to full, I prefer to have a full tank ‘just in case’ which has actually panned out well right now considering.

Annoyingly our local Morrisons was gridlocked so I didn’t even bother with the food shop as I would be sitting in the queue as it’s one road in past the garage to even get to the supermarket.

I imagine that will happen within a couple of weeks at least. Unlike toilet rolls, the average person can't panic buy a year's supply of petrol, thankfully!

Garage List
2014 BMW 335d  [0.00]
My 335d has about 50 miles left in the tank so went to fill up this afternoon. Some were completely closed, others had petrol and none had diesel. No major queues though.

Went to Asda and there was at least an hour long queue, thought sod that not wasting my life there so went back home, don't know if it had any diesel or not. I'm lucky in that I can WFH so will try again once this palaver dies down.

At least they won’t be able to buy much next week in that case, unless they do this ….

Well at least there's only so much fuel you can have in your tank at once, and I doubt most people have a 500l tank in their garage (unlike a few mates I know!), so unlike toilet roll which all the wankers were stockpiling this should only last long enough for the tanks to get re-filled a few times (he says hopefully).

You just can't educate pork, or fix stupid.

And the hits just keep on coming, Stanlow oil refinery that supplies a 1/6th of our fuel on the brink of collapse, they're going to have to keep it going otherwise there will be the mother of all panic buys next week

Temporary visas to Xmas Eve. Same populist shit as last year's lockdown easing, save our precious xmas, rather than anything that remotely resembles a strategy.

This is all being directed according to the grand plan.

The Continuation of utter madness until the only sane people left are Boris Johnson, Carrie Johnson and their tortoise Alan.

I'd like to know exactly when this "levelling up"is due to start

It's a joke, MB, too little too late, which is BJs modus operandi.
Why would they bother coming back anyway? Articles I've read are saying that drivers who left who've stayed in the industry are enjoying higher wages and better working conditions in the EU and those that didn't have found other jobs. Apart from the stupidly short duration of the visa, they wouldn't be entitled to any of the advantages that they had before when we were in the EU such as access to healthcare. And how are they supposed to find accommodation for three months? Sleep in their cabs? I've also read in different places that the driver shortage is between 75,000 and 100,000, so assuming a 50% uptake of the temp visa offer, which seems unlikely, 2,500 imported drivers isn't going to make much difference.
I would also imagine that many drivers who got caught up in the Xmas chaos in Kent last year won't forget spending days on end in the attached park in a hurry.
B****t was always going to be a nightmare, given our longstanding dependency on immigration for essential workers, but this government's management of it has been jaw-droppingly dreadful - and predictably so.

I was pretty shocked by how little the drivers earned and how poor the facilities are for them these days, I used to go off with my grandfather for a week at a time during the summer holidays back in the 80's as he was a HGV driver, I had a great time and never had to piss at the side of the road or sleep in the cab.

We'd travelling all round the north of England and Scotland it was ace.

Who's going to want to come and work here for 3 months, knowing Christmas Eve you are out of a job again?

Should have made the visas 6 or even 12 months.

Of course they should, TP, although it's debatable whether temporary visas will attract hgv drivers and poultry workers in significant numbers anyway. Industry bodies have been warning the govt about the impact of labour shortages for months and months. The govt has resisted taking action for political reasons but now the issue is acute, they have no choice but to act. Many of the scenarios predicted in Operation Yellowhammer (HM Treasury's contingency planning for the possibility of a no-deal B****t) have now become a reality.

Looks fabulous Todmordenlad, where exactly is that?

IMO this is the best time of year to spend down there, not so many 'idiots' about.

Yes, I took this pic walking away from the bay towards Lands End. You would doubtless have approached it from the Porthcurno side.
As for Sunak, G*d knows...
