Trying to update maps
I know this has been talked about to death, but I think this may be a new problem. I purchased the medium package recently primarily for maps as my car has not been updated since new in 2013.
I've downloaded the 2022-1 West Europe file from BMW and that was only 21.6gb, does that sound correct? Copied this to a 64gb usb and it copied exactly the same amount of data, but it is just one file. I've put the USB into the port under the arm rest and nothing happens, I was expecting it to come up with a progress screen. Can't work out how to get a screen shot of things into a message at the moment, that may help! |

If you are using the BMW Download Manager, it should indicate there is a problem with the download or the extraction to USB stick, if either is incomplete or not correct .
Is it possible to download without using the Download Manager?

...when you say "copied"; did you do it or the download manager? It's a ZIP which the s/w unzips and copies to your USB drive. There are normally lots of files and several root folders. Download and try copying it again! And as Steve says, FAT32 format is best for map updates (and music)...
Not sure how big the W Europe file should be for your system, but they are at least that. Think my latest one for iDrive 7 system (Europe Live 2021-3) was around 28GB ZIPped. |

I think mine was 36GB when extracted to the USB stick in the end (NBT Evo).
Also, make sure you put the stick in after the ignition is switched on... it didn't recognise my update when I put the stick in before turning on ignition. |

This is how the BMW file appears when downloaded, just one file. It's the same when copied to the USB stick.

Didn't think they gave them names like from BMW? Almost looks like a torrent! Rename the file to add a file extension of .ZIP. Then try unzipping to the ROOT of your USB...

It might be that you can't update them that way. I had same issue with my 2015 unit. When it was in at dealer for servicing I asked them to look at why it didn't work and I was told mine could only be updated via the dealer supplied USB stick. Was a bit annoyed that BMW had let me purchase that package for it.

2015 pre-LCI model. On Friday, I updated map after signing up to Black Friday Connected Drive M.
1. Use BMW Download Manager. 2. It saves entire file to hard disk, then it prompts you to allow it to transfer to USB. 3. After the Download Manager confirmed completed transfer, I plugged USB stick into car. 4. Started the engine, then IDrive asked if I wanted to update. 5. Yes, then it asked for Password (which BMW had just sent to my email). 6. 30 minutes later, all completed while I was driving around. Hassle free. Let the Download Manager handle everything. There's no need to fiddle with file names, or unzipping etc. |

If you've paid for the update in the connected store @PG325, you need to use the BMW Download manager. It is the only way to extract the files & FSC codes correctly to your USB drive.
If you've paid for an FSC code from another vendor, then downloaded the map file, you will need to decompress it from whatever format it's in, with 7-Zip or similar. The image you've posted, as has been said, looks like a 3rd party download. Which you don't want if you have paid for it from BMW.

I did notice yesterday that I had not ticked for it to allow access to private networks, only public, so tick this box, and now it appear to have downloaded a file of approximately 27GB, then validated it, and then it asked me where I wanted it saved (USB drive). So I now have the following on a USB ready to plug into the car, hopefully this will install itself later. |

Yes, that is what the directory structure should look like.
