Replacing the shocks at 75k, should I replace the strut mounts?
So my front shocks are leaking at 75k miles and they are being replaced with Koni SA in a few weeks. While waiting for parts I was contemplating what else I should replace. I figured the bump stops are easy enough and cheap enough to do without questioning and chances are that they're in rough shape knowing a few potholes that ive hit. However; the strut mounts are much more expensive and I'm not sure if they're really necessary or how I would tell if they need replacing.
Is that a common thing to go wrong and should I just add it to the tally as a "while you're in there..." mindset? Are they built like a tank and won't fail for 150k miles or whatever? : Everything including the bolts is like $380 from FCP so I'm currently leaning towards that route a little. |

The hole in the strutmount is a bearing that wears, like all bearings do. creak and clunk noises are often caused by worn strutmount bearings.
Yours may still be good but its better to replace it because if it goes bad later youd have to take everything apart again. Spend a lil more now than a lot more later. |

BTW, springs are relatively inexpensive. I prefer to replace springs at the same time when shocks are replaced. |

FCP Euro has a kit I believe which is cheaper than buying it all separately. Better to replace to top mounts and all the rubber bits that are old and worn even if they look okay. It will ride better than new with the Koni's

I ordered both front and back. The kits are the same price as purchasing it piecemeal. If I damage a bolt or if it appears weathered in any way, I'll replace it. If not, I'll send it back. Same for the dust covers. Rubber will all be replaced though.
Funny when I ordered the shocks they were available in a package all together for the same price; however, the weight of that package exceeded the free shipping weight limit. Ordering them separately allowed them to be free-shipping. Always a thing to check. |
