My 2016 335i GT has "Benson Lamishield" front windshield... I bought it as a CPO, so not sure if the PO or the dealership had it replaced for some reason. I don't have HUD, but rain sensing wipers work fine. The weather strip/ seal looks very neat still.

All 4 windows and rear glass are 'Saint-Gobain Sekurit'.

I have a Pilkington windshield on my F30 and also drive a lot of highway... probably 80% of my driving is highway. I have a lot of pitting too.

Yea, they'll all soft and will get blasted easily over time. Just get good glass coverage and replace every few years.

I have a Fuyao one. OEM was replaced within the last month or so due to a crack and rock chip from Semi.

After replacement, it took a day or two for the rain sensor to not have any more bubbles after reinstall and no issues thus far. The first two days the rain sensor didn't work / went crazy. After it "set" bo more issues. I was hesitant at first too after all the posts but it works. I don't have hud though.

Had my initial windshield replaced with a FUYAO glass and it was awful. My HUD was totally off. Nighttime driving was really bad as well, lots of halo's. I had them replace it again with OEM Pilkington, no issues after install.

That's obviously installer error or you got the wrong glass. 90% of issues like that are due to installer error or wrong part, not the glass. All OEM parts are made to certain specifications.

I have a Pilkington windshield and it's super soft. It chips easier than any other car I've had. If I replace it, I'm just going with whatever is cheaper as long as it is rated to work with my HUD. It's just glass. Fuyao is one of the largest glass manufacturers in the world and they have manufacturing facilities throughout the world (there was a documentary about it on Netflix). At that point, it's not about where it's made but what specifications were used to make it.

The FUYAO glass that they installed was the correct manufacturers number for my vehicle. There were two models (one with HUD and one without). At first I thought the same but I verified that the correct unit was installed. It was garbage.

How many factories do they have? It's a lot less expensive to source from suppliers that are closer to the factory than further away.

do you all go through insurance to replace? mine has so many rock chips and it's becoming nasty to look through while the sun is hitting the windshield glass. I'm worried to go through insurance and get some bad quality glass.

Yup $50 comprehensive & glass. So why not. It's not like OEM is anything special or does not get rock chips/ pitting

Just had mine replaced for free by the insurance company 6 weeks ago. Safelite brought the wrong brand, so the guy said he'd go back to the warehouse to get the Pilkington. I had spoken to them about what would be used beforehand. So far, seems as good as the original glass that broke from a smallish rock up near the mirror.

My previous F30's windshield is Pilkington, while side windows are Fuyao.

Make sure any Fuyao glass installed comes with BMW marking, as non-BMW Fuyao QA is not as good(don't ask how I know).

Safelite installed the standard Fuyao on my car about 6,000 miles ago and I can't say I have any complaints. Lights/wipers work. I don't have HUD.

Good lord, I never bothered to look at the glass brand on any car until this thread, lol!

I have the OE combo several others seem to have. Pilkington front, Fuyao sides, Sisecam rear. All work just fine.

I will say though I agree that the Pilkington screens seem soft. I have never chipped a windshield until this car. Fortunately, Safelite was able to fill it in for me.

Glass shop brought fuayo glass with paper pilkington sticker on it. He said fuayo makes pilkington glass. Is this true????

I did not buy trust argument and insisted in pilkington logo on glass.

Fuayo is a Chinese owned company, Pilkington is Japanese owned, based in the UK. There's no reason not to trust Fuayo. General Motors, Ford, BMW, Honda, Bentley and more all use Fuyao glass.

Just curious, how much does a windshield with HUD for an F3x cost?

Mine was replaced last year, I think it was about 1600. Insurance paid for it.

If you have chips and small cracks, I would highly recommend trying out the Rain-X windshield repair kit. Well worth the $5.

I swapped my HUD F30 windshield 3 years ago for a "knockoff brand (XYG)" for ~$400USD installed. It's been perfect, HUD is clear, no complaints.

While we are slightly off topic...

I have AAA in California. They offer for a small annual fee (I can't remember how much but it wasn't very much), OEM glass coverage. With two BMWs with heads up display and other windshield-involved features, I decided to get it a couple of years ago. I've had to replace 2 windshields since then and no hassle at all getting OEM.
