I bought it with 95k miles on it and the service history was meh.
I changed the VC gasket and changed the oil but beyond the few oil changes i saw on the service history im not sure whats been done with the car( i know not the smartest buy) but i was wondering what my plan should be in terms of maintenance

( no issues but without knowing much about its history i wanna do what i can prevenitvly)

Plugs and Coils would be a great idea. Plugs at least.

Replace your coolant overflow line if it hasn't been done already. (Part number 17128570061).
Possibly the mickey mouse flange into the oil filter housing. Both this and the overflow line have plastic that gets brittle with time and heat. They will snap without warning.

Keep an eye on your oil filter housing gasket. If you get oil leaking down the front of the block from that area, get the gasket replaced asap. Don't want the belt slipping off and possibly going through your crank seal.

Also keep an eye on your oil pan gasket for leaks. That's a common thing as well.

Skip the NGKs and grab the updated OE bosch plugs that are for the S55. ZR5TPP330A Part number 12120039634.
If you don't have any issues with your coil packs, I wouldn't bother doing anything yet, but maybe grab a set of Eldors for when they do go bad. I bought part number 12138657273 from oembimmerparts. They're technically for a different car, but I know a couple people on here are running them just fine (myself included).

I would at minimum replace the charge pipe before tuning. I'd recommend FTP for a cheap one.

The stick chargepipe WILL crack, if you put a tune on. it's not an if - it's a when.

idrive restarting could be a few things. If the battery is older than 5 years, probably worth considering anyways. Mine died at 7 years.
As far as istep upgrades, you are correct. There is a specific istep where the DME can't be unlocked through OBD yet. (Someone please correct me if this is no longer accurate)

I don't remember the exact version this was introduced, but I know it was mid 2020. so if you're insistent on upgrading istep, stick to late 2019 (F20-19-xx-xx).
Be aware that the hard drive in the idrive headunit can also die. If that's what is causing your reboots, it is a pain to replace.

thank you for the input, hoping it's software related or something i don't think it's the head unit because my power steering also seems to cut out when the idrive goes black

Oh, then it's definitely power related. When my battery was on its way out, I got codes for power steering voltage low.

would changing it at this point do more harm than good?

and if you saw i mentioned my idrive and steering issue earlier in the post, do you have any suggestions toward why that could be?

#1 is always the million dollar question... can't answer definitively. there's two different schools of thought on that.

No idea on #2, but worth trying battery if its very old anyways.

Do the automatic transmission service right away. And replace all fluids.
