Dealer Comms Need Some Work??
My F32 430 M Sport needed new discs and pads this week. This wasn't news, the dealer told me last year they'd need done by the time a service was due this year. They told me it was 'about £400'. This year at the service they didn't say a peep, gave me the car back. 2 weeks later the computer started a countdown for replacement. No worries. I booked the work and was again told it was 'about £400, fully aware that I have the advanced brake pack (I think it was called originally, blue calipers). Only when I arrived to have the work done I was told that the 'M-Sport' brakes are 'a little bit more' - I am not sure what they think that sentence means, but it did not put over £800 into mind - that, to me counts as an order of magnitude larger??
I can see from other posts on the forum that the end price is typically about what I paid... I just can't help feeling a little miffed that the words used by the dealer were 'a little bit...' misleading? Anyone had similar? I'm looking forward the to the email asking me to rate the experience.... |

£800 isn't too bad when you consider ATE discs and Textar pads from Autodoc are between £450-£500.
Incorrect pricing seems to be common place, well from my experience anyway. |

Thanks for the comments. However you've both gone to justifying the price, I wasn't complaining about that. I agree** it appears to be the standard price... and the brakes are also a commonly chosen option, so something the service department surely deals with frequently.
It is precisely because of that I feel annoyed at the way it was handled - they didn't give me anything close to a reasonable expectation of what it would cost and sitting there waiting for a 4-500 bill and coming out with 800 after the fact just doesn't feel right. I am not used to BMW being coy about BMW service prices, nor is my car is so unusual that they'd not have a sense of the true cost. ** I agree now, just to be clear - never thought to check the forum pre-service and had been told three separate times by BMW the job was c. £400 - and I know that on a least one occasion we had confirmed the type of brakes I had. Without trying to start an argument; half of that responsibility is yours really. Clarifying the costs up front before work is done, more so at main dealers, is paramount, otherwise embarrassment happens etc |

The dealer comms do need work. They did this to me twice since the M-Sport brakes became a thing.
They would be better off to note quote and ask what brakes you have (even though the spec tells them) than just assume the standard and give the dealer standard 'oh' when you turn up. |

The bmw service website does state m performance disc and pads will cost more. But the dealer had your car in. They should quote the proper price as they have parts from vin number etc.
Checking eurocarparts, m performance pads are cheaper then non m performance. Its the disc that cost so much. I think dealer should honour quote unless somethings in small print like the website |

Dont get me started on dealers and brakes, mine went in for recall work a month or so back.. nothing said during the free "health check"...
Week ago i get a phone call saying it was picked up that i need all round discs and pads, funny that its just flew threw its MOT at an approved BMW independent with not so much as an advisory rear brakes done Q4 2021 and fronts done Q3 2022. They must think we all just blindly drive to Mr BMW and trust they wont have our pants down. |

TBH I agree with the comments that you should have confirmed a price with them before having it done.
Fitting bakes is bread and butter to any garage and they will have an 'alloted' time frame for the job. The parts are standard on their system. I now only fit my own brakes, bought from Autodoc, on all my cars. It's an easy job, especially with the help of 'youtube' videos. |

Here's the thing though; if you're not that into the car to look up every single part number for it and cross check with multiple sources to validate and find the best price, then you're going to take the word of the dealer. And if the dealer says 'about £400' then that means it is going to be around that price, which to me is the £350-£449 mark. The dealer knows your car's reg, VIN and spec therefore they should be checking what your car needs before giving a price, end of. The price you end up paying should not be double what they originally say - remember that most of us on here are the rarity in car owners, not the norm. BMW dealers are IMO some of the worst I've experienced for being financial schiesters; things like 'pre-declining' your warranty claim so they could charge you full whack labour rather than the discounted warranty rate. And upon realising the warranty company had never seen the claim to decline it, saying it would be fine, and then calling the dealer out on it they then, in a huffy tone, had the cheek to ask 'so would you like us to attempt a claim then?'. They're at it plain and simple.

When I was looking to get my MPPSK last summer, I saw one of my two local BMW dealers were advertising them on eBay. £1,695.00 (£1,795.00 with carbon tips) fitted and done. So I called them and they confirmed the price.
Just to be sure, I phoned the other local BMW dealer for a price. They quoted £3,250.00 for the same thing. When I told them the other price, they couldn't care less. |

Also OP asked them three times what the price would be, don’t agree with the replies saying he should have done more. I’d be equally enjoyed if I’d specifically asked them a price 3 times and then it turned out to be double! |
