clutch overheating message in 2014 4 cly. Wagon

Daughter's car was in sustained uphill stop and go when she got warning message of clutch overheating. Car drove fine, but warning message received. Let it cool down 10 minutes and drove home although message still showing. I never heard of this. It is logical but this was in 55 degree weather. She knows how to drive I should add. Anyone have comment? I have a 335Xi so likely different clutch and never in that traffic situation either.

Could be legit. Did not know clutch had a sensor.
Does the message come back after restart?
