Hope it works out for you OP, when I took my N55 in for a turbo failure I could not put the stock downpipe back on (stripped lower O2 hole). They told me at first that warranty would be honored, but 4 days later they pulled it away.

I went to a different dealer for a second opinion and found out dealership number 2 has been approved to repair the car under warranty. The car does need a new turbo. They had an engineer visit and take a look at the car and he said a bearing went bad and caused the turbo to fail. Parts are now on the way and hopefully I get the car back before the end of the week. The X3M loaner I've been driving is definitely growing on me haha. |

Did they do any work prior to the four days and were you charged for it?

This is the 2nd time I've seen a turbo replacement cost quoted at $7K+.
That seems ridiculous and makes an extended warranty worth considering... |

They took apart the intercooler and charge pipes, as well as performed a leakdown & compression test on the first 3 cylinders. I knew going in that there would be a diagnostic fee of up to $1400 and that is what they tried to charge me. I talked it down to $800 due to how ridiculous the whole thing was.

hey guys, my stock turbo on my 2016 340i recently said bye bye and i’m stuck deciding what to do next. as of now it’s on mhd stage 2 on 93. current mods include upgraded open box air intake, vrsf charge pipe/ downpipe and new coils/plugs. i’ve also been having the issue of the car running too lean due to upgraded air mods and nothing done to the fuel system yet. I need suggestions on what turbo setup to replace the stock one with and also any supporting mods to go along with it. of course after these are all replaced it will be gettting a custom tune, not just a ots mhd tune… thanks for the help in advance

Do you think maybe if you had a stock air box and wasn’t running lean it would of kept the turbo safe? Just wondering since now I’m scared I’m on BM3 stage 2 & have an mst type air intake but it’s inclosed lol.. |

blew my stock 340i turbo and upon taking it off it looks like exhaust ports 4,5 and 6 are oil soaked but 1,2,3 are bone dry. anyone know this might be? the car runs too well for it to seem to be a mechanical issue

Now when you get into large turbos you have issues with boost control sometimes and different throttle positions etc and will likely need a tune. Now for a stage 1 type it will run fine on a ots map etc. You just had bad luck man.. it sucks. May as well grab a used oem from someone who's upgraded already or upgrade yourself. Good luck.

I guess this can be the failed turbo thread.
My 2017 340 with 33k miles has a bad turbo too. I've been tuned a long time, but just OTS maps, stage 2+. CG catted DP, Dorch 1, E40. Maybe 420-ish HP (never dyno'ed). Anyway, I have a DAW 2.5 on order - no reason to get a stock turbo at this point.

Turbo Blown
F30Nate - Something that shouldn't have clearly went through that turbo. You can see the damage. I would not run that unless it get's a rebuild. Just my two cents though.
