N55 Fuel Injector Replacement
My fuel injectors on my '15 335i need to be replaced and BMW is quoting me $4500 which seems steep (I am also getting another estimate from a non-dealer). I think it is something I can fix myself but I don't want to open a can of worms and cause more problems to my engine.
I am still learning how to work on cars--I have done basic maintenance like brake fluid flushes and oil changes but haven't worked on the engine yet. It doesn't seem too daunting but I also don't want to cause any more damage to my car. Has anyone else replaced the fuel injectors? If so, how challenging was it and how long did it take? |

The only hard thing about BMW's is trying not to break parts which you're removing.

You absolutely need to code the replacement injectors. You didn't say why you believe you need injectors but I would suggest that if you don't have access to ISTA or other factory level diagnostics to pull proper codes and troubleshoot correctly then leave this to a reputable shop. I've replaced an injector that failed which caused a horrible shaking and dead cylinder when the DME shut off the injector. There is an injector offset printed on the side of the injector that is impossible to see once installed that must be coded correctly or your fuel trims will be off. You also can't reuse an injector without a new seal and special compression tool to resize it. Read the factory service manual before you think about doing this yourself to ensure you know what you are getting into. This is not a beginner job.

I recently replaced my injectors, easy plug and play. They were EU6 and NO CODING NEEDED, if yours are the EU6 then no need to code. Install was a breeze. Just need the proper removal/install injector tools. Prep work I did was disconnect battery and let it sit overnight before working on disconnecting the fuel lines. Look up DIY N55 injectors.

You need a good scanner which has a function along the lines of "Determine EU5 or EU6 injectors" It will query the DME and respond back which injectors you need.

Fuel injectors on cylinders 5 & 6 were done a few months ago by a local shop after they gave out. I was getting an intermittent misfire on 2 and 4 and decided to pull the trigger on new injectors. I just pulled in the injectors from the car and noticed rust buildup on the tips, is that normal or OK? I attached a few photos. I will have an endoscope to look inside the cylinders Saturday and will post what I find.

Do you have new Teflon injector seals and the resizing tools if you plan to reinstall any of your used injectors? You will need them or your injectors may not seal in the head. BMW requires you replace them and to install new ones you need specialty resizing tool.

Have anyone tried to fit BMW F10 M5 injectors Eu6 on a 2015 BMW 335i xdrive “EU6”? Some people said that the M5 injectors are only Eu5, is that correct?

Someone already answered the latter question in another recent thread, forget which one, check recent posts. They said they can be EU6 AFAIK
