330d v 335d airbox /intake pipe
Turns out i need to replace the intake pipe just after the airbox on my 330d, its missing an important tab and therefore rattles enormously. Question is, does 335d use a larger dia intake? / Is there an oe upgrade available here if i needed a new part anyway?

RealOEM shows the 330d and 335d sharing the same intake parts.

mapyn Hello sir, did you manage to sort your rattling?
I noticed in this cold weather my 330d is making a loud growling noise at idle. I assumed it was just a loose rain tray cover or something, but this morning I put my hand on the intake pipe and the rattling stopped. Is there anything missing from my pipe that you can see? Although looking at the pic again, it looks mighty close to the metalwork, so could be vibrating on that? |

I believe there is felt tape around the intake pipe, well there is on my 330d!
I had to replace said tape as mine was rattling at idle. I think the tape gets damaged when the pipe is removed and put back without care. Anyhow new tape sorted the rattle. |

Did the same with mine a few years back. Pulled back and applied tesa textile tape twice around to take up the gap and fitted back together, rattle gone.

Cheers chaps. That is indeed my issue. The felt tape had backed out and/or fallen off in places so I have ordered a roll of anti-rattle tape from Amazon.
I also noticed the pipe has become incredibly stiff over time, so the flex bellows sections no longer, erm, flex, which I think exacerbates the problem. I might replace that pipe as well if it's not too expensive. |

yes mostly. I used the fluffy side of velcro but (time constrained) I only fitted it to the top side of the pipe. Unfortunately it is needed all around - as I currently have it it rattles from time to time but no doubt this is the fix.
The only thing i do wonder I'd she the front airbox still has its mounting foot as without it I imagine the rattle is exacerbated. I need to do some more digging around in the engine bay to answer that |

That is a damn good call with the velcro. The glue on that is usually heavier duty than self adhesive felt tape. I'll grab some after work.
Yeah it does need doing all round. It seems to be the bottom half of the pipe that clatters around the most. |
