2019 F31: TRSVC or ICAM (rear camera)?

Hi all,

I’m planning to retrofit a reversing camera but I’m unsure which setup I need to get.

The car is a late F31, built 2019/04. I’ve read certain post that say cars after 2017 will not need the module / TRSVC - is this true?

Does anyone know for sure if it’s a ICAM camera I need or is there way of finding out (before attempting to do the retrofit).

Cheers

If anyone is interested - you need ICAM. Vehicles from some point in 2017, the FEM has been changed & it no longer support the TRSVC module

Does that mean you can retrofit a true 360 surround view if you wanted to? The trsvc module for f30/f32 only supports 270 degrees without the front camera. The 5 series uses icam and has the front camera using a different module.

Update: I installed a icam that came from a F23 and it works perfectly.

Part number: 66539475684 (look on realoem & you can find other compatible part numbers)
Wiring harness: icam for F or G series

It took me a while to find the pinouts for the camera but it is the following:

Icam
pin 1 ------> pin 21 HU
pin 2 ------> pin 24 HU
pin 5 ------> pin 23 HU

pin 4 -------> Fuse box in boot
pin 6 -------> Ground

pin 7 -------> pin 52 FEM
pin 8 -------> pin 51 FEM

Coding wise, I saw the ICAM2 module straight away:

Needed CAFD
Added 3AG & VO coded: HU, ICAM, FEM & REM (might have been another, ICM - can't recall)

Wait for the car to sleep & bang everything was working sweetly.

Note - my HU is the entry evo & using 8.8 touch screen

Regarding the 360, I have no idea - I didn't come across anything during my search but I wasn't looking for that.

i don't understand the icam vs trsvc. is it a model type for the camera? or the module?

i google your part number and it shows the rear camera, i am guessing icam is a camera type instead of module type?

so if the car doesn't need the module, then where do you connect the camera to?

thanks.

Icam doesn't require the TRSVC module. You run the wires straight from the camera to what I listed above.

If you have a 2017+ (not sure what month) then you will have a FEM that is not compatible with the TRSVC and you'll either need to replace the FEM with an older unit (not sure why anyone would do this) or fit the Icam. I know this for a fact as I originally installed the TRSVC etc and it didn't work

ah i see, so it depends on the FEM, not on the HU. cause i retrofit ID6 to my 2015 F30, so my HU is obviously 2017+ (HW version 4.1), but my car is older. so connecting the icam straight to HU will not work because of the FEM, not the HU

Hi jammy78 thank you, your post is very useful

I've a F31 LCI 18' with PDC, so my FEM doesn't accept TRSVC module.

I am getting crazy trying to find correct iCam (camera+harness) part numbers as on realoem and other websites with my VIN number says I have to install the old camera with TRSVC.

Which part numbers should I look for?
Thank you

My findings, which could be usefully for others, are that the aftermarket F30/F31 handles do not integrate with the connector cover which is to be moved if your BMW is 2018+.

So right now I am in a bit of catch 22. The camera handle I have bought is not compatible with cover. I cannot cut out the camera and glue to my old handle. So I guess I have to buy a new more expensive camera...

I would not retrofit a rear view. One of these gives you rear and front view, and works much better than the rear view mirror. I love mine. https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0...?ie=UTF8&psc=1

my f30 is built in 2018 and I used an aftermarket Emtronika kit with what i believe is an emulator that connects to the back of the HU and coded 3AG and it looks and feels OEM.

Hi,
Can You tell me which FDL coding on HU, ICAM, FEM & REM was done?
I'd like to try code before buy ICAM and check if it goes to camera view after putting reverse mode (or maybe I need first plug in the camera)?

Hi jammy78,
I'm trying to retrofit a reversing camera to my 2019 F32 and I had the same issues regardig to what camera I needed till I found your post.

Do you know the Part number for the wiring harness?
As I'm not used to work on cars, I'd really appreciate the mounting instructions or any clue how to find them.
And finally, I have no idea about coding or terms like "CAFD, 3AG, FEM, HU", etc. If you could tell me what this means or point me where to learn, that would be great.

Cheers!

Hi Scottttt,
Even if I'm a bit lost myself, if your car is an F82/F83, realoem shows 66539240351.
