Is my car totaled
Got in a accident today hit back ice and went off the road into a telephone pole, no air bags deployed. A guy at Bmw took a quick look a said around 15k In damages. Is he right or is he smoking something. Hood is untouched but needs new fender and bumper. But I imagine the whole right suspension will have to get replaced. Any opinions?

Another stupid thread.
Do you know who can tell you....YOUR INSURANCE ADJUSTER. You can either source all the parts yourself and do the work yourself and probably save some money. Or let a professional do it, who can look at it in person and who can properly assess the issues we can't see. |

2015, 435i coupe xdrive 90k miles, 67k msrp. I’m not asking for a professional opinion, just to see if I should keep my hope up of keeping the car or if I should start looking for a replacement. Or to see if anyone on the forum had a similar crash to see how much it would possibly cost to fix. The car got towed to my bmw dealership today and they will call me tomorrow or the day after.

If you're getting it fixed at a BMW dealer, I'd say 10-15k is accurate. With labor, I'd guess like $6k for suspension and $3k for fender and bumper (with paint). An indy shop would charge less.
This is assuming only front right suspension is damaged and no frame damage. |

Definitely not having Bmw do the full repair way to much, I have a Indy shop that I’m close with so I’ll get a list of repairs from Bmw and see where to go from their. I know for sure I can get a used fender/bumper and have it painted at the Indy shop and save a lot their.

If there is susp damage and most likely there - they will total it.
If you want to keep the car - and get it fixed - right their comps and most of them will be missing packages. Especially if you car is manual. |

I don’t want to make you feel guilty, but may I ask about your tires? In the photo those appear not to be winter tires. Are they winters or all seasons? I see the word “sport”. I hope they’re not summers. There’s at least a fair likelihood winter tires could have prevented this crash. I tell people all the time you are safer with rwd and winter tires than awd and all seasons.

It might not have, but winter tires have softer rubber specifically for cold weather and they are considerably more grippy than all seasons. I’ve used winter tires on my rwd 3ers for twelve years in Chicago and I’ve never had an issue.

Normally I'd say no but looks like he's running Conti DWS06 Plus' which is crap in snow. I run them on my 435 and when I get in my E350 with Michelins, the difference is very noticeable in snow. Rain, however, the Conti's shine.

Update: car is totaled and insurance paid me out 21.5k. There total damage report was 13k. I was just hoping for a atleast 20k given the 92k miles. Guess it’s time to start looking for a new car.
