Heated Steering Wheel Fault
Hi All
First world problems of course is that my heated steering whel has just stopped working now its getting cold. Had a service last week at bmw but was still working after so nothing there. Pressing the button shows "heated steering wheel activated" on the dash but the button LED doesnt light up Ive checked the battery and it was showing low on the charger so left that on overnight. Today its showing 12.2V on the multimeter but still not working. The steering wheel is a royal steering wheels swapout thats been in for about a year and a half with no problems. Anyone got any ideas on how to test or fix? I was hoping for a fuse but these dont use them according to another thread. Any good iphone apps that can read fault codes to see if anything is showing? thanks

I had this exact issue a couple years ago when my battery was struggling in the cold temps. When the battery gets low the car shuts off unnecessary circuits, heated seats and steering wheel being one of them.
I resolved it using Ista+ to re-initialise the FEM (Front Electronic Module). Changed the battery as well as it was past the best of its life.

Bosch, Varta, Exide, Yuasa are all well regarded. Even Halfords own brand are decent. Used to be supplied by Yuasa. Tayna is always a good place to buy batteries. https://www.tayna.co.uk |

Is it worth keeping it on charge for longer ? 12.2 is far too low. If you can get it up to max on the charger (over 13 but will drop back to 12.7 or 12.8) then test the heated wheel then you at least know the score. You never know it may well hold charge once properly charged. Had similar with another car in the family.

Ive been to see my AA mate tonight who tested the battery. It came out ok saying it just needs a charge so Im going to leave it running for a few days over the weekend.
He did however find a fault Front Central electr. 4.0 030482 Heated steering wheel short circuit We cleared the fault codes but its till not working. After I've given it a charge ill pop the airbag out to make sure Ive not caught any wires that may have rubbed since the replacement steering wheel was fitted. Either that or my heating coil is buggered

I've met the same issue recent, I found the way to make it work is like the #2 said, you need just use ISTA+ to do "re-initialise the FEM (Front Electronic Module)".
Also I found the same 030482 code, maybe there is something wrong for the module? I don't have any idea. Last time I just cleared the error code, and do re-initialise everything works. But one day later, the issue occurred again, even though it works after the procedure but I don't want to repeat again again |

Hi all. How did you solve the 030482 error issue? After reupholstering the steering wheel, the heating stopped turning on. More precisely, the indicator on the button turns on and off immediately. I made a diagnosis and the result: 030482. Help

Mines still broken. I think its a short in the heating filament in the wheel. I managed to reset the FEM which works and it starts heating. As soon as you turn the engine off and back on it fails again with the error code

1. Start engine, and start steering wheal heating; 2. Shutdown engine, the steering wheal heating would shutdown as well; 3. Wait 5mins then start engine, the steering wheel heating would start automatically, but it may be die instantly(the LED would be off, no heating anymore). Try to press the button, the indicator in cluster would be all right, but the LED no light anymore. |
