Which brakes on my 435i?
I feel like I’m beating a dead horse but I’ve read enough information on the different brake configurations to keep my head spinning for a week. My son’s car he just got is a 2015 435i gran sport. The front calipers are in red and four piston and have a “M” logo however measuring the rotor at 340mm. I was first thinking these are M Performance brakes but then shouldn’t it have the 370mm rotor? The vin decoders I try say nothing about the brakes. I know the previous owner could have easily painted the calipers or did an upgrade. To make sure we buy the correct pads how can I know what setup we actually are looking at? Will a part number on the caliper give a better clue?

Take a look at the back of the caliper where the brake line connects. If there's embossed text that says 370/380 you have M performance calipers that'll only take 370mm rotors on your car. If it says 340 you don't, and they were most likely the grey Brembos painted red, which take 340mm rotors.

Pads will be the same either way. They're the same caliper, just with a different offset from the hub to fit different rotors.
But more likely they are the stock m sport brakes painted red by a previous owner. Are the rears 2 piston or 1 piston? My guess, single piston floating caliper which would be the "base" m sport brakes, just painted red. Nothing wrong with those brakes. Like I said, same front caliper, just different rotor size paired. So all the same pad options for the fronts from F8x brakes, M performance, THP brakes, and M sport brakes.

If standard, probably the 330mm discs; if Brembo, 345mm discs So you'll need the correct pads for the front (M Performance / M Sport etc); but rears is where you need to suss out what's fitted currently I run OEM M Performance slotted/grooved discs on my F31 (370mm / 345mm) with OEM BMW pads; if you want an upgrade and still BMW, go with the F80 M3 pads Part numbers on RealOEM FYI

Ok, here’s what I see. The front caliper backside has the 340 on it and the back caliper is single piston, sliding. That would be the standard brake set up, correct? Whoever had it before did a nice job on the calipers and even put an “M” logo on them.

I once 2013 made a post about the whole brake variant disaster they did to us.
Maybe this helps a bit. https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...d.php?t=858607
