328D N47 F31 Exhaust leak at v-clamp between DPF and turbo
I notice the clamp is leaking, I tighten the bolt a little and it did not help.
If I want to replace the clamp and gasket inside , do I need to remove the DPF? Has anyone done this and can share the experience. I saw the clamp seal is tough, have to align up the flanges properly. I was thinking maybe the DPF need some cleaning too? I think the clamp is not designed properly. the ends on the clamp bends easily and too flimsy for the job. BMW is learning a lot from China on the material quality and material gauge, but not on the price.
I just replaced the plastic valve cover. The plastic crack easily. Even the new ones stored in the warehouse deteriorate overtime. After I solved the oil burning issue, I noticed the exhaust leak. Both are due to cheap material and light duty design. |

How did you remove it? I think I need to use spreader to spread the tabs apart.
The sensor near the other end (band) is tough to remove, do I need to loose the red cable connecting the sensor? |

I had to use a long screw driver to pull part the tabs to release the clamp. The NOX is tough to remove, need to burn it with a torch and wrench together. I did strip the thread a little. I bought a tool to chase the thread. Hope it does not leak when I put it back on. After I remove the DPF, I noticed the gasket was not seated properly. I wonder if they did that during the last EGR recall. I broke the DEF injector during the DPF removal. Waiting it to arrive. I also cleaned the DPF after the I took it out with a DPF solution from Amazon. It is hard to seal the other end so it does not leak. I never got it seal properly with latex gloves. It is a tough job. Hopefully I fix the leak after I put it together. It is really a pain on the BMWW. |

The turbo charger-dpf clamp is tricky to remove without breaking it. I welded back together but it was no good.
I presure wash the dpf using both dpf solution and heavy duty kitchen solution. It might have helped ever so slightly. However it's not a permanent solution for sure. I'm my case, regens very often and no significant improvement in oil ash mass & soot mass levels. How did it work for you?

I bought new v-clamp, you have to align it nicely before you tighten the v-clamp. It is a pain.
The other end with slit pipe fiting is also tough. The clamp is not NOT strong enough to close the slit so there is no leak. I bought a big 2.5 clamp with M10 bolts, cut down the clamp width, still there is a little leak. Then I applied the exhaust wrap I got from Amazon, like bandage to close off the small leak. Anyway, It is bad engineering, very hard to fix. They should use flanges on both ends with copper gasket. |
