rebooting 2021 BMW_NBT2_1_G box - what to do?
Hi all!
I haven't posted here since 2022. I have this box which I bought from a aliexpress seller in 2021. I have since forgotten everything I knew on this topic LOL: MCU Version 21.6.7.116 CUST Version v3.6.0.2.ly.b2 HW Version BMW_NBT2_1_G I was never able to get any support out of the seller, but I did get [the current] firmware from another supplier that seemed to help. I'm having frequent disconnects and warm [never full/cold] reboots. No idea if it is hardware, installation, firmware, or some combination. Any advice? is there newer firmware I can get from anyone (I cant get it from seller). At this point, I'm considering "starting over" with a new box if there is a cheap one that is better, and can still use my cheap aftermarket front and rear cameras I added to this box. Advice/help appreciated. Dave Last edited by AbnormallyAspirated; 04-24-2024 at 11:57 AM.. |

Recently got mine and installed in my F80. I purchased the MMI box from Andream for the sole purpose of Android Auto, my 2018 VW had it and my wife's 2018 Q7 has it but my 2018 BMW doesn't 🤦‍♂️
Pretty easy to install, a bunch of fiddling with the wires to get it all back together. The screen right angle connector gave me a bit of trouble to find that perfect spot to put the screen back on. Everything appears to work properly, thankfully we can use full Bluetooth from the car which is awesome, plays music and takes calls without an issue. I tested it a few times. Some things I noticed: * No factory touchscreen capabilities, not a big deal as i rarely use the factory one anyway * Can't change to next song using wheel controls like you normally would (while on the MMI/Android Auto screen) * When you're on a call with someone, you'll see it on Android Auto, but if you go back to the BMW menu mid call, you'll still see the call there too. * Same goes for the music. I have Spotify playing on Android Auto, I see it there but if I go back to main screen, I also see it on the car side * Get in car, start car and it connects via wireless pretty quick for Android Auto. * Wired android auto works aswell with the USB connection but there is a delay. You'll connect it, go to wired auto. It'll say to connect device, and then a few seconds later on that screen it'll start. * Minor annoyance is the delay of shut off, I'm assuming it has to do with the 10-15 minutes before car goes to sleep. I rarely lock my car in my garage and sometimes I'll come home and start doing things inside said garage, and I'll turn on my Bluetooth speaker. During that 10-15 minute window, my phone just keeps trying to connect and reconnect to both the WiFi and Bluetooth of the MMI box, causing interruptions of playback but also notifications on the phone saying, oh android auto is available blah blah. This also seems to happen if I wake my car up for whatever reason like when I went to vacuum the interior, and it kept causing my music to stop because it would try to connect to the MMI box. * If you want to use the "YouTube" app, you'll have to turn off use Car Bluetooth option. Makes sense to me. * Rear camera works without issue * Microphone works without issue I haven't messed around with it much more yet but it does seem to work for what ifs supposed to do, granted it will have some limitations but what I'm most happy about is that there isn't a loss in Audio Quality thanks to using car BT. |

I use CarPlay, but some of these may apply universally or to AA... For steering wheel control scroll, try to code (Bimmercode expert or other). These are CIC and NBT, so if you have NBT EVO use the equivalent codes: BASIS_KOMBI_MMI_LIST = aktiv or... HU_NBT > KOMBI_CIC > kombi_low and MMI_List > aktiv ---------------------- Phone call issues: Make sure that in the phone Bluetooth settings the device is set to "car speaker" and that you have given the myriad of permissions that Android requires for BLE and wifi connections. If no go: try to delete all BLE connections from car and MMI and phone and re-pair all of them again ( I know it's a pain) If no go: then may want to try to use only BLE between the phone and the MMI only...or the phone and the car only (do not see much benefit). ================== The MMI seems to boot up at times a fraction later than the HU. This causes an internal CID bus error that you cannot see unless you use ISTA+, but you can ignore it. But this is also happening when powering off the HU and the MMI. That's when you see the "No Signal" in the CID. This is something that short of a hardware solution the Chinese manufacturer should be fixing via coding. ------------------------------------- I tried using YouTube but could not set it up. Gave up after a couple of tries since it's not a priority. How did you get yours working? -------------------------- Yes, as long as you are in BLE range of the car with your phone, it will want to stay connected or may reconnect. At times, if you go out of BLE range, and then return about 10-20 mins later (assuming that the HU did not yet go to sleep) the MMI will not reconnect to my phone via BLE. May be 1 out of 10 times. I have to press BACK button for 3+ secs to reboot MMI and then it reconnects 19 out of 20 times. If that does not work, I may have to delete the phone to MMI BLE link and re-pair again.

I have the same problem regarding the connection between the phone and the car only when I unlock it. Spotify starts playing music and a message pops up on my phone that Android Auto or Waze is running. This annoys me so much because when I vacuum my car without switching on the ignition, there is a connection between the RoadTop box and my phone. Do you see a solution to this? What exactly do you mean by what you wrote: "This is something that short of a hardware solution the Chinese manufacturer should be fixing via coding." It is something that can be solved via a local USB update? Full text from you for a bit more context: The MMI seems to boot up at times a fraction later than the HU. Best, David |

The auto music play at start up is written in the firmware. It starts if you have the HU menu set to Multimedia => Phone. You maybe able to set your phone not to allow auto play. Some others suggested to set an automation routine in the iPhone that stops the music playing when Carplay starts/connected. I rather have the MMI connect to the car automatically when the phone is in range, even if annoying, than not. Do not expect Apple or Samsung level sophistication and user integration from a $220 Chinese hack.

https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ostcount=12373 And ISPBOOOT.BIN (1.6.16_n the latest one for CIC) from the sharepoint link post: https://f30.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...ostcount=11917 There's also an update for MCU at the sharepoint, but the file modification date is Feb 2023, so I guess it's not the one I have and not the latest. |

Hi All,
New to the forum. Decided to move away from leasing and picked up a 335D Touring at the weekend. The car was highly spec'd, inc. Pro Nav, but being a 2015 model and NBT does not have the Apple Carplay functionality I'd like. I've been reading through this thread at the various MMI options and like the sound of the Mr12Volt one, but that would use the existing 8.8 screen which is a noticeable step backwards in terms of screen resolution, clarity & colour etc, from the screen in the 2021 3 series touring I had as my last lease. I've seen (from reading on here) that integrated automotive offer an OEM upgrade to the newer ID6 screen that already has carplay and is touchscreen. Their case study video on their website talks about the other benefits of the upgrade, namely nav, full-width screen, GPS, reversing camera, etc, but my car has all of those already. And at £1.2k it's not a cheap upgrade, so I'm wondering if there's an alternative I've not seen yet to upgrade the screen as well as adding carplay? TIA Last edited by Gee Cee; 04-29-2024 at 10:59 AM.. |

There is another thread here (look for Android HU 11 / 12 /13) for Android Head Units that is built into an after-market Chinese screen. I installed one a few years ago for $450 and uninstalled it after two weeks. It was too reflective. Check with that thread and ask them if this glare issue was resolved and also what the current screen resolution is. The other option is to go OEM screen, but that brings with it more hardware upgrades and coding issues for a 2015 car, which are time consuming and takes time to learn unless you are willing to spend over $1K for someone else to do it.

Does someone know how to get rid of the audio delay and make steering wheel buttons control tracks?
I tried BASIS_KOMBI_MMI_LIST = aktiv, and tick use car phone bt, there is still delay (noticeable when watching a video and not only music, and buttons still doesn’t work) Thanks |

Without posting details about your MMI, hard to answer anything.

Issue with Andream MMI
Hello,
I have purchased Andream MMI, the NBT version, since I have a HU_ENTRYNAV (NBT system but without NAV). I connected everything as instructed on the forum, however when I switch to AA screen, nothing is shown (black screen). When I switch to BMW menu, it works fine, so I believe I have connected everything correctly. I'm doubting there might be an issue because I have upgraded the basic 6.6 screen to 8.8 one some time ago. However, I have put the dip switch position as for 8.8 screen - 123 to ON. Do you guys have any clue why it does not work? Thanks |

I can confirm the audio sounds terrible via AUX so i'll be switching it back to Bluetooth, interestingly on my BMW E92 2010 CIC I have what appears to be a later CUST version ?? SDK Version: 25.0.0.7.0.0.2.0 CUST Version: EW_CHL_1.6.16R2_n MCU Version: 21.7.21.117 HW Version: B_CHL_G Also.. are you able to play Youtube Videos ?, I can log in to my Youtube Account, see all my videos but when I select Play it Loads but never plays, then returns back to the Youtube home page... I have an Iphone 14 Pro Max with the latest updates..I wonder if this could be the issue as the MCU Version is 2021. |

Do you have anything showing when NOT in the OEM menu? Or just black screen? Is there "No signal" displayed? Can you hear audio when in MMI screen mode but black? 1. check that all connections and LVDS are firm and seated. Re-seat the quadlock connectors. 2. Make sure DIP switch settings is ON and not OFF (labeling is funky) 3. try different DIP switch settings (search this thread and read first page) 4. LVDS cable(s) maybe backwards (unlikely)

My guess is that it's an Andream type firmware based on the format, but do not know ModsUK...maybe someone else does. Some sellers add protection in their firmware (even if it looks like Andream or Road Top) that may brick the MMI if you do not install their files. I did not get my YouTube on my Road Top NBT working, because after two tries it failed, and I did not have the patience to figure it out since I only use YouTube at home. Someone else may be able to help you there. Not sure which iPhone had problems with the MMI....14 or 15? But it was not a YouTube issue, if I remember correctly.
