2015 328d US spec n47 diesel
98k miles Owned since 2019 and 40k plus miles with no previous history of this until recently. After cold start (I live in CA and never gets below 40 F) engine shakes quite violently until warmed up. This does not happen consistently. Sometimes it starts normally. Idle RPM is normal at about 600. Video doesn't capture how rapidly it is shaking. No lights on dash and ODB scan shows no codes. |

It's the entire engine shaking. If it were the engine mounts, wouldn't it shake at idle even after the engine is warmed up? By the way, I just tried a cold start and it didn’t shake abnormally so it’s not consistent.

The engine cover looks like it’s not secure, visually exacerbating the issue me thinks.
Every few months my engine starts a little rough when cold. I double up and pour a bottle of Standyne diesel treatment in a 1/2 full tank as the medicine for this illness. Fixes it every time, so maybe give that a shot. |

Thanks. I'll try Standyne. It just did it again yesterday. I don't think it's the cover. And the video doesn't do the shaking justice as the frame rate of my phone is obscuring the shaking.

I think the low idle is contributing to the shaking. I think normal idle is 800rpm. I have a n47 also with 98k miles but she doesn't shake as bad as the video.
