I agree that the 737 has been stretched too far from its original design. The latest version looks like what would happen if you tried to fit the B58 motor in a Triumph Herald MkI.
I have traveled on many different types, and for short haul I prefer Airbus 319/320/321. For long haul I'd say A330, B747 (only if Premium Economy), and B767 are the best. The coach section of a B747 is a miserable place. Not ridden a B777 yet. The one kite I don't quite get is the A350. It looks bloody cramped in coach, it vibrates in an odd way, and it seems to be a pig to land. It always comes down rough with a bunch of bouncing. I've also ridden the Bombardier regional jets a few times. No space for proper carry ons, but they usually run them to special terminals with a guy who wheels a cart in with your bags. Besides there are not enough people on board for it to be a big issue. You get your bag and are long gone in the time it would take you to extract yourself from the back end of a 737 or A320. |

A shorthaul favourite of mine was the BAe 146 / Avro RJ100 Jumbolino.
Used by Crossair, they always seemed to have large leather seats. Maybe I just got lucky? (Concorde would have probably surpassed it, but I never got to ride one....)

BBC News - Alaska Airlines blowout: Passenger describes being on Flight 1282
https://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-us-canada-68583149 Scary stuff - mind you, I used to fly between southern African countries on tiny twin props piloted by schoolboys for nearly a decade and that used to scare me sh*tless. Never had a blowout, mind you ! 🥴

The South Carolina factory building the 787 got itself a dreadful reputation for turning out faulting aircraft. It lost track of nearly a hundred faulty parts that should not be fitted to aircraft on safety grounds. To this day, nobody knows where they went. One of the Persian Gulf Airlines told Boeing flat out it would only take 787s built in Seattle.

I’m booked to fly to Washington in September. Going out on a Boeing 777 and coming back on the Airbus A380.
So I’ve got half a chance… |

Whistleblower of Boeing supplier dies from sudden infection.
This is an unfortunate series of events. Feel very sorry for his family.

Mentour pilot on YT is doing a bite sized series on Boeing and what went wrong, starting at the beginning with the engineering led business through to today's shambles.

link to the play list if anyone is interested, (he has two channels now as many seem to have not sure why they do that but I guess they are just copying TV in that respect) https://www.youtube.com/playlist?lis...vtKZLiCjpDuaL5 I watched the NF downfall of Boeing again last night, it's always about greed isn't it, it's not like the board were not already set up as multi millionaires and that the business couldn't have returned shareholder value and looked after the workers and passengers, but no that's not enough we have screw everyone over and then cover it up and even when caught out we'll just pay a fine... The fact that the US government accepted $2.5bn rather than going to trial tells you that they are just as complicit in the shambles, just like the banking crisis unless the boards start getting jail time there is no reason for these psychopaths to stop doing this stuff.

Well said.
Re. Mentour, (I’m sure you know as a regular viewer, more for others)… Mentour Pilot is geared towards a pilot audience, his crash/incident reconstructions cover every detail and every trim/setting change for others to learn from, but still very watchable for an amateur. Always fascinating and saddening to see the number of missed opportunities that usually occurred to lead up to an accident. Mentour Now is slightly more generalist avgeek stuff. I watch them interchangeably.

Angle of attack and air speed indicators seem to be very crucial to a safe flight. The saddest/frustrating one for me is the Air France disaster as they could have sorted that out vs the Concorde crash as they had no chance and did nothing wrong. The Tenerife disaster is also worth a watch, confusion and one arrogant pilot is all it needs, I have huge respect for pilots though it's one hell of a job that can go wrong very quickly.

Watched one last week of an AA (iirc) flight that took huge damage going through trees, but the skills of the pilots made up for earlier mistakes by getting it down on the ground with no loss of life.

I’ve literally just stepped off one this afternoon, Ryanair from Alicante to Liverpool.
I fly Liverpool - Alicante's regularly, over the last 15 years probably 40 plus times return, usually with Ryanair, sometimes EasyJet and occasionally Jet2. Plane today was EI-HMX, 2 years old. Observations The engines are huge compared to the 737-800 Its climb rate was impressive, the last time we climbed like that was on a Jet2 757 Slightly more modern inside Squeaked and rattled like hell on approach to Liverpool It is much quieter from a takeoff point of view. Main one is they are referring to them as 737 8-200 series on board by cabin crew and the pilots, I remember Ryanair having them branded this way, is it a way of getting away from the MAX name? I bet very few people even noticed apart from me. |

"Welcome on board this Boeing 737 8-200 series, which is definitely not a 737 MAX, and you're definitely not going to die a horrendous death as we nose-dive into the ground or the plane dismantles itself mid-air...but start praying, just in case."

At least you didn’t hear “Thank you for travelling on board this Boeing Starliner to the International Space Station. Due to a technical problem, you won’t be going home.”

I have to use Ryanair as I live in Porto and they are the only option for flying to Belfast/Dublin. I have flown the MAX several times and it is much the nicest 737 to fly on. Comfortable, quiet and much better than its predecessors. Of course this is all anecdotal and I would MUCH rather be on an Airbus.
On my last flight, we were delayed by five hours from Belfast to Porto and it was clearly the airlines fault. I filled in a webform from Ryanair, claiming EU261 and was pretty much immediately approved receiving 400€ into my bank account within three weeks. They are definitely much better at Cusotmer Service than they used to be. |
