Diamond cut wheels look great

But aren't they a pain in the arse?
I've had my nearly new car, recently refurbished wheels within two months the lacquer wants off.

They do look great. Unfortunately more problems than good. Waiting for my set of alloys to start corroding/worming then I'll get them refurbed in one colour.

A guy local to me has started doing 2-tone powder coating to replicate DC using chrome powder as a base, baking them, then applying another colour over the top and wiping it from the surfaces which would normally be cut. It looks pretty decent and I had thought about doing the four tatty rears I've got with it. It's definitely not as nice as pristine DC but it'll be a lot better than the average DC wheel!

What did you expect? The folk that I know who recut diamond cut wheels only give a 3 month warranty.

Get them powder coated and save the grief.

Mine were freshly cut and lacquered before i bought the Porker , 10 months on and there is dis-colourisation under the lacquer and it looks shite.

Going to need new front tryes within the next few months so am considering getting the tyres delivered and getting them fitted to newely powder coated rims as the DC look is just too high maintenance for UK usage and the salted roads we drive on kill them.

Diamond cut refurbs never seem to last. I had some done by the local stealer on an AUC and the finish was terrible, like a vinyl record.

Was it 'She drives me crazy' by The FYC?

I will NEVER have diamond cut wheels ever again. They are terrible, no matter how you look after them. It's not just road salt, it's all the debris from the roads that chips the lacquer. Brake dust doesn't help, either.

Paint or powder coat is the ONLY way to keep alloys looking nice in the UK. IMO.

Agreed. I'll eventually have mine finished in Orbit Grey or Ferric Grey. Just need to find a picture of a red car with those colour alloys now

Personally can't stand the finish; has no longevity whatsoever...

I proper powder coat and lacquer finish, IMO, is much better...

Can't go wring with ferric grey

Well contrary to some I've have longevity with my diamond cut wheels and really only suffered when it's me that's damaged them or the previous owner that wasn't too careful.

My current wheels were fine until I hit a huge pothole and damaged 2, flat spotted and buckled both! really thought I was in for some serious expense. However, after loads of reasearch and speaking to many repair places I had confidence in one guy who straightened them and carried out a refurb. Have to say I am very impressed, they are virtually an exact match for the original wheels on the other side of the car so much so that I guess only I would know they have been repaired.

Here's a couple of pics of the finished wheels, hopefully they will last but we'll see. They have the aero plastic bits in and the spokes are quite fine and satin finish so maybe that'll help protect some of the finish.

I had my wheels powder coated last year in shadow chrome and was initially really happy with them, however an unfortunate meeting with a curb on one wheel and some mysterious damage on another left me miffed every time I looked at them. I exchanged my wheels last Friday for a refurbed set of diamond cut ones with shadow line gloss black (I originally had orbit grey). The finish of the diamond cut is really good and there’s been minimal material removed, I’m very happy with them, hopefully they’ll last well??

That actually looks nice. Might consider that colour when my refurb comes up...

Gonna do a bit of photoshop and see how that looks on mine

Can they do a similar finish to orbit grey 704M's instead of black? If so, I'd like to do this instead.

Would you mind sharing the name of the place, please? Thanks.

check out performancepowdercoatingb9 i was given their contact.
He can do most finishes. i requested shadow chrome base with chrome Face, so it looks diamond cut and still stood out.
Didn't book as i then cleaned up my wheels. 7 year old car, no corrosion on the diamond cut. Its just i dont like the base colour of ferric grey.
