Great video from Hagerty, certainly makes the Hyundai look a compelling package.

For me, when do you need that level of performance and handling in the real world... and of course, the additional performance means lower range and efficiency.

For me, the EV is about a sensible refined way of getting around with the family and the dog, and the fun car isnt about raw performance but about being able to have fun at legal speeds through the sensory interaction with the car...

I can see why it might appeal to others but its a no from me... I can see the EV3 being on my list when the Jag goes back, 350 mile WLTP range from the best stats, and the right size for everyday use for me!

Having driven a quiet large barge for 3 years I'm itching to get back into something a bit sporty, it won't be the Ioniq N as I don't have access to a salary sacrifice scheme and without that they are £1000 a month, but for me it's the most exciting EV outside of a Taycan.

I love the way it humbles the gauche pantomime on wheels that is the Urus.

Thats a nice looking car as well. Have to admire how far companies like Hyundai and Kia have come!

On the vids, well they are the best!

If I had a gun to my head this would be my choice...... it actually looks quite good compared with the usual bland EV designs.

I do like the Taycan design but you would need a lobotomy to buy one of those

We saw one a couple of weeks in the "showroom" at Bluewater Shopping Centre.

I always have liked the look of the Hyundai "N" models and this is no exception.
It's a big car, and has a big price tag but looked pretty impressive.

I ended up watching a few reviews that weekend just to see what these are like and they seem to go down pretty well.

People say it's a big car but it's no bigger than a mid sized school run SUV as we can see from the video, so looks about right really.

Wills2 You're right, my comment was comparing it to their other "N" models i guess.

I actually quite like the look of it and it would be on my list to consider where i ever to cross into the world of EV.

I think the problem isn't the actual size, which as you say is mid SUV, but the fact that it is styled like a hatch (with a nod the Lancia Delta), so looks a bit 'odd' in the flesh, like it didn't stop growing when it should have

That's my thoughts anyway

Indeed. It has a wonderful sonorous engine, that you can interact with with, the very soul of the automotive experience.

True it is but so is the X3M to the M2, N equals M in Hyundai's world as the guy running the program came from BMW M.

I think it's the hatchback styling that fools people as already mentioned, but for me they don't look that big in the flesh as modern cars go.

I finally got a test drive in one of these last week. Awesome car although didnt try all the modes and features. Quite tempted as I can get one on salary sacrifice for a reasonable cost per month.

My main issue is the size and weight of it compared to what I'm used to with my current Golf R. Didnt really push the car as had the wife and sales women in the car and probably wouldnt appreciate it. Still give it some beans and its pretty quick. Not quite as urgent as the Model 3 Performance I tried the other week, but that was probably down to the mode I was in. The vid above shows there isn't much in it.

Annoying things are the infernal speed limit warnings that are now fitted to brand new cars. Need to go through menus to switch it off every time you start the car. Other issue for me was lack of lumber on the seats. Also I dont belive the range is great at around 200-250 miles.

But loads to love about the car and the synthesized engine sound isnt as bad as it sounds in the videos, I quite liked it. Not much different to any synthesized sounds that are pumped into ICE cars TBH.

The surprise for me was how comfortable the ride was. Probably even better than my Golf. Was expecting it to be pretty firm, but its not.

Trouble is, can I stick with it for 3 or 4 years on a lease as I tend to swap my cars.......

It’s an interesting option Dopper. Woudl love to see you take it up. If you don’t have frequent lengthy journeys why not!

Certainly one of the very best hot hatch / SUV out there 600+ Hp is it, that’s unreal. Hope you go for it so I can see your long term thoughts

Other side option which I will consider if I’m up for a car change is the alpine a290. Not out till early next year but you’ve seen it of course and it’s more warm hatch but also less than £65k we assume. Personal preference but the size and weight of that feels more fun oriented than the QN but I’m looking forward to reviews of the R5 and then that. Range seems like it would be quite similar.

In summary unless you need to change now, coming form the 7R I’d say the A290 might be a better fit and (form ban?) could save some monthlies.

PS octopus EV scheme has updated my octopus energy to now be 6p overnight rate. Daily remains the same. Let’s not get ‘into it’ here chaps but fuel becomes negligible at these levels.

The AWD EV6 I've just got is quick enough in sport mode. I can't image what this and the EV6 GT are like....

It looks nice in that black. Seems to hide the size a bit?

If the numbers work, go for it

On range, it fills really quickly, do you need massive range when you can go from 20% to 80% very quickly!

No one needs 600hp in the real world but it looks a nice option so I may revisit my earlier views when I need to change..

I think its needs 600bhp to shift that 2.2 tonne weight! The Model 3 performance only has 460bhp but is about the same performance as shown in that vid. So its not really about the headline bhp but more the power to weight.

OK, i rephrase, you dont need the performance of either of them in the real world, especially as I think you live in the wonderful south east too!

Its a nice car and Musk is definitely off my " do business with" list after his interference this week (and fact his platform is being used to organise some of it!)

Agreed, my 320bhp Golf 8R is fast enough for sure. It's just the fun factor of these cars is rather addictive. Selfishly I have no real interest in electric cars TBH and its only the performance and responsiveness that attracts me..... they put a massive smile on your face. It needs to be the right EV for me to show any interest.
To get a similar powered petrol would cost a heck of a lot more but would cost a lot more to run. These EVs are cheap as chips to run given the performance from what I understand.

Regarding Musk's offerings, I've tried all 3 variants of the new Model 3 and for sure they are a very good car. The M3P is mental in Insane mode. Not sure how they compare to the old one, but this latest model is pretty good and pretty comfortable, handles well. But there is something about it that I cant warm to them. Too many about on the road, no indicator stalks, no dash in front, lack of HUD, no Apple carplay, no buttons or switches (and my Mk8 Golf got slated well for that, Tesla seem to get away with it). One other thing the Tesla on my salary sac is a lot more expensive than the 5 N (comparing like for like).

BTW I'm in North Wilts and not the south east. They binned off a lot of the speed cameras and safety camera partnership years ago.
However, truthfully I don't really speed, the wife wont let me for a start since I got caught a couple mph over and had to do a speed awareness course.
