Maybe it's a bit late, but I think it's a feature from your phone.
I have got several times a pop up on my phone when I try to unlock it while the car is moving and carplay is active ( I was not driving).
The pop up said something like "driving mode".
Lately, the pop up aslo shows "I'm not driving" and after touching tnat, the phone finally unlocks.

Hi everyone, I have a Series 2 Active Tourer from 2018 (hybrid) and I'm struggling to get to grip on how to activate Carplay. Loads of confusion with sellers on ebay that seem to contradict eachother re feasibility. I assume I do not have a wifi port on my unit so was wondering if there's anything that can be done to get Carplay running without spending a fortune. Anyone you recommend in the London area? I'm pretty happy with the spotify functionality, I'd love google maps but from what I can find out I need a WiFi module thingy and if I did anything to it there's a chance it'd invalidate the BMW warranty so I'll just do without for a while (or maybe buy one of those cool looking magnetic phone mounts that goes over the hazard warning light switch!).

Adding the wifi antenna won't invalidate the warranty.

Adding Carplay won't invalidate the warranty as long as you remove before any dealer visit - PM me and I can help you

Just to add, my head unit is ENAVEVO; Wifi is False ; Telematic ECU : ATM.

So I guess, there is no Wifi Antenna. Not sure if it can be installed.
