Heard and read about how fun they are, never had one, found out I fit in this latest version, unlike the older models, so thought I'd give it a whirl!

I tried the RF after seeing Chris's, but I have to say for me it felt more like a Targa top than a drop top, and it felt more cramped. Good looking roof up though!

Just got it home from Mazda, and its certainly different than what I am used to!

Thanks. I’ve yet to go out and have a hoon, but they are good value and a nice little toy for very little money.

Congratulations on the MX5 purchase, as I've said before its a car I've always liked but could never fit into. I hope the weather are smiling and the roads clear so you can enjoy top down motoring.

Hi thanks, I'm 6ft 2 and I fit and I'm comfortable. I would not want to be any taller though!

Very nice looking, love that colour.

Genuine question, isn't there a 'use case' overlap with the Ferrari? Obviously very different cars, but thinking back to when I had the Boxster, it was always 'One or two of us, take the Boxster, more take the family car'. If I had both on my drive, not sure how I'd decide which one to take, and which one would end up not getting used

I'm 6ft 7 & have tried to fit into a MX5 (along with a Boxster plus others) on several occasions and the salesperson always admits that their cars weren't designed for people like me, which is why I drive a 4 series convertible as my daily driver.

Lovely cars - i had the mk3.5 and still one of the best value drivers cars out there - IMO.

And in the ABSOLUTE best colour a car has been made in.

Yes it does get like that, which one!

To be honest, I took the Ferrari out last weekend and I was on red alert for potholes, sunken drains and in general the current state of our roads. It was not that enjoyable, and I am a bit worried about going somewhere whereby I don't know the roads because my god there is some craters out there. I am hoping they will get better, but ultra low profile tyres mixed with todays roads is a worry and does spoil any fast drives. So you pootle about just looking out for potential tyre and alloy killers. Its a good job its a lovely thing to keep garaged and polished, because its a lovely thing to look at! In all fairness it has been used, I have done 11k miles in it! as for the other cars, they are not losing any money so its the same as money in the bank to me!

Enter the MX5, well, who cares, and I am off to Brighton tomorrow for a weekend drive fun and eating, so overnight bag, taking in all the coastal roads with not a care in the world, roof down, get a tan, not bothered where I park it, won't get any attention, and Ill probably enjoy the drive given the feedback from other owners. I think thats where this car will fill in. It should be liberating!

Congratulations - my wife got the 30 AE because we love the orange and it is perfect for her at 5’2” - I fit in it much better as a driver but don’t get to use that seat - not sure why the passenger side is that much shorter that my legs can’t rest on the seat! It does less than 2k a year and can’t see us ever selling it - brilliant car… Perfect for kicking back and enjoyng life rather than than feeling like you have point to prove (as I am often ‘expected’ to do in the M3)…

…and I agree on the roads, gone are the days of just looking ahead to take the bend with precision instead it is whether that black splodge on the apex is full of patched tarmac or a gopping big hole… just been for a tour around Skye and there is no way I would do that in the 992 Turbo S I want to get - so will just stick with the M3 for a few more years while I get all the UK road trips done - it’s a hard life…

Some of the roads really would be done best in an MX5 (to keep this vaguely on topic) as I struggled to keep my splitter scrape free and my car isn’t lowered. (PS the worst road I found for that was not on Skye but the road down to the Mull of Kintyre as it is so long you want to use reasonable speed which you then regret as the crown of the road catches all the time!)

Finding decent places to eat definitely involves booking ahead as most places will be fully booked… research your chosen area and be aware that there are a few overpriced pretentious places that probably aren’t worth the money based on reviews.

Definitely avoid midges… Skye can be particularly bad so best to avoid summer - they were just starting to put in an appearance as we had decent weather. As long as there is some wind you will be fine though.

The scenery is amazing of course… I’d recommend not being too fussed about The Old Man of Storr, Fairy Pools, Neist Point & the Quiraing if you go in summer holidays as you will struggle to park or even get there on gridlocked single track roads as all the tourists and coach tours go to most of those places. Any other time of year you will be fine. Also you may want to factor the weather in as far as what you do when as it can vary a lot around the island - you don’t want to go from one end to the other to visit something that is buried in clouds - obviously there is a limit to what you can do here.

Personally I wouldn’t go back - loved it but feel we’ve done it now - this is really driven by the traffic and the risks around the weather being clear - we did OK but I wonder if we got lucky! Brilliant thanks, we are going for the scenery and in the Mini and in September (late) so hoping we will cope... bit of a flying visit whilst doing Inverness, Durness and GlenCoe....

And I dont think we will be making a regular trip up there.... the 1700 miles in 6 days will see to that!

Sounds like you are enjoying the Mini. Nice one.

Just got back from a weekend in the MX5, and If I am honest for this type of car and money, I preferred my JCW's quite a bit more. One, I think I am to big for the MX5 and found it cramped and having the seat all the way back could not get my perfect driving position! Two, I just find the Mini JCW more fun, better sound and drive and it feels far more fizzy and eager. I think the MX5 handles better and its easy to get the back out which is a laugh, but couldn't help think you look a bit of a prat doing a slow speed drift in an MX5, anyway everything else the Mini has it licked!
