BM3 Stage 1 knocks

Could someone advise whether I have a problem with the amount of knocks I get (60+ knocks within 20mins city drive)? I am on BM3 Stage 1 91Oct (using 95RON + 98RON fuel)

I read in other posts that knocks when cruising/normal driving is normal but with this amount of knocks, it's just concerning...

Is the fuel you put in your car good quality?

You may have gotten some bad gas. Put two gallons of E85 in the tank to see if it improves

I'd recommend going back to stock and log again and check if it's clean or not. If it's the same you have likely gas issues like folks have mentioned

Knocking

Did anyone figure out the cause of the excessive knocking shown on the datalog? I have been feeling slippage/hesitation when accelerating with about 80% throttle pass 2k rpm. I suspect that it's bad gas (Costco 91), but could the injectors also be clogged due to the bad gas? How did you guys resolve the knockings.

Don’t jump all the way from bad gas to clogged injectors. Two different extremes.

Quick ways to determine if you have a tank of bad fuel is to add 1-2 gallons of E85 to the tank. Each gallon in a full tank bumps the ethanol content up about 5% so E10 (gasoline) to E15 or E20.

Another way is to flash a lower octane tune so 93 to 91, or 91 to 91ACN.

If the engine suddenly drives much smoother and stronger it is typically a tank of weak gas

Hi! I bought techtron fuel injector cleaner and filled up with full tank of Chevron 91 gas, still the same symptoms. Now I'm really out of ideas. Could it be a boost / vacuum / air leak somewhere, or the injectors? Sparkplugs and coilpacks were replaced months ago.

Here's a datalog I did today just on a casual drive, no WOT but still some hard acceleration, and I see some knocks too but it went down to below 0.5 which is different from the datalog I had with the "bad gas" I had before that was giving 0.5 and 1 knocks.

It’s good that you tried gas from a different station. But that doesn’t necessarily mean that the gasoline between the two is that different, despite station branding.

One day I saw a gasoline delivery truck pumping gas into the underground tanks at the station that I use. I struck up a conversation and learned where he picked up his gasoline at a refinery depot about 10 miles away and that he delivered to most of the gas stations in my local area. So if the refinery depot was the source of a bad/weak gas for one station, it could also be at others.

I still suggest flashing a lower octane tune or putting 2 gallons of E85 in a tankful to see if that changes anything with the fuel before moving onto other causes.

Yeah that might be the case but I have filled up a new tank of different brand with techron fuel injector cleaner as well. And the condition happens on both stock and stage 1 tune.

I've been having the same issue with my n20. No codes have popped up and I've tried a 93-octane tune, 91-octane, 91 ACN tune, and they've all had knock detection going off at random times. It was even going off on the stock tune, so I'd be interested if anyone has any ideas.

LSPI is treated as a knock in your statistics? If yes what kind of engine oil are you using and what intervals?
