2018 340i 6MT Clutch Replacement / Master Cyl

Hi all,

I got a 2018 340i 6MT with 55K miles. Started having clutch pedal depressions on colder days (clutch would sit halfway down until car was driven/warmed up). Got to point where I got in on the next day and clutch pedal was to the floor. It has been beyond freezing in NYC lately (as everywhere else basically).

Checked brake fluid level, was below min/master cylinder hose. Took into shop, tested master and slave - all good. Did flush/bleed, nothing. Was told it's the clutch, couldn't believe it.
- flywheel shows visible scratches
- clutch disc worn, friction material completely depleted
- replace clutch kit assembly, flywheel, release (throw-out) bearing, clutch disc/pressure plate

Took it to different shop for different experiecne and not being ripped off (bmw focused shop vs. normal mech shop over 25 years).

Ended up being the clutch - moreso related to the throw out bearing. so did new clutch assembly. Shop said flywheel was good, had metal shavings around clutch. Master cylinder was also replaced as it did not produce enough pressure. I want to say he also said that it was leaking (internally?) and that's why my brake fluid reservoir was so low.

I bought car with 13.7K miles, have not beat it every or dumped clutch. Spirited driving in sport mode and ECO through city. Driving home from shop, new clutch was significant improvement for sure. Prob did not realize I had some minor / decent clutch slipping before. City driving, sometimes I made small mistakes/errors, letting wife practice her manual driving prob deff added to it lol.

Overall - curious, 55K miles. flywheel was fine, needed new clutch and master (wear and tear understandable). Any thoughts I can go to dealer/BMW for warranty on possible early defects or anything aside from telling me wear & tear/city/wife lol.

Maintenance planned:
- spark plugs & coil packs
- replace gas fuel regulator value on top of engine (read previously its a typical minor inconvenience on car - can just cause idle joints randomly but serious, right?)

Thank you in advance.

to add-on.

Replaced battery as well since it was original and at end life. Had multiple low voltage on car diagnostics report.

I also previously replaced the SOS battery in the rear center headliner. Had SOS emergency malfunction warning back then, and now again after getting car back. I'd like to think it was related to basically having a dead battery towards the end between sitting in shops and cold. Going to try OBD scan and maybe just pop out battery and put back.

Cheers

Update on car:
- clutch still a little limp in morning on cold start, once driving pressure goes to normal.
- brakes sometimes slightly affected - basically as i go brake, they dont engage/bite until the latter part of the brake pedal pressing. Like delay in braking, still brakes/grabs like normal just the pedal pressing is affected.
- took car back in, nothing was wrong. no air or leak. he cleared some codes/maintenance because i couldnt reset due to needing new telecommunications battery still.

I did my brakes/rotors over summer - since then my brakes clunk when i brake at times. mainly slower speeds or when parking. almost like after i press brakes they clunk/thunk as they collapse?

any help would be greatly appreciate. thank you

The guide pins might be sticking or maybe some air in the system. Guide pins are extremely easy to clean on these cars.

I'm shocked that the clutch was worn at 55k. Only other nyc story I heard with worn clutch and burnt flywheel was the owner riding the clutch, feathering it in stop and go traffic specifically on bridges and inclines.

I swapped out new guide pins and even the support brackets as well on front rotors.

Clutch - yeah it is what it is now. Might have to go back cause the biting isnt like before on pedal. Thank you.

Have you done a CDV valve delete? Most members prefer it deleted. Removing it helps give you a morw consistent shifting feel
