You are looking at the old forums. The new forums haven’t reached the x5 section yet

I’m hoping it gets approved tomorrow, if so can you try it out and see if it helps the situation or if its the same and let me know?

Ya I’ll try to check on it periodically. I will be traveling tomorrow but I’ll try to remember before going to bed.

Ok no worries, if it happens to cross your plate. Also curious what is your typical usage, read some forums and threads? Use the garage, use PMs or other parts typically? If you notice any pattern like for example it always happens after you read a notification, etc.. would be very helpful too

I mainly just read threads, maybe respond to a few. I’m not sure what triggers it. Last night I did just that. Opened the app this morning and was logged out. I usually pop in and out of the app a couple times a day. I do have a bad habit of closing all my background apps, but I’ve also done that numerous times today and not been logged out yet. We’ll see if it’s like a nightly refresh thing or something, maybe I’ll be logged out when I open it up in the morning.

Yes if it happens again tommorow morning let me know, atleast that way I know it has something to do with background activity making it happen. That would be a massive clue. If it doesn’t happen then that’s a good sign since really it wa expected to happen one time with the most recent update but more then one time is for sure not right

I have everything working with my code to post and reply to either the vBulletin site or the beta. But I'm noticing that the beta site will not show very large posts. Take a look at the second post in this test thread: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/beta/show...php?p=32677698

If you look at the same content on the current site it appears fine: https://g80.bimmerpost.com/forums/sh...php?p=32677698

The vBulletin site limited posts to 100k characters, so that is my ceiling. For the content to appear on the beta I have to drop that down to around 26k characters of HTML before I convert it to JSON or you get nothing to display.

Let me know what you think - The post is being saved regardless of whether I send it to the beta or the current site, so I don't know if it is purely a rendering problem on the beta or if you are synchronizing two different storage formats on the back and have different limits. Most of the existing service bulletin sticky threads I maintain have a massive second post as it is a reverse chrono digest (e.g. https://g45.bimmerpost.com/beta/show...php?p=32306476 shows the same issue). Not sure if there are many other posts that will hit this "new" limit, but hoping those won't disappear on people.
No these bug reports are incredibly helpful, keep em coming...!

As for that second post, yes that is bizarre, im going to look into this more deeply and get it fixed. Luckily, the data is there, ill see why its crapping out with super long posts. I do have a text limit set for the beta site and that might be the problem. was that last super long edit submitted using the vb or beta site?

It seems the content is all there its just not outputting correctly, but I want to make sure
apptest - the OP of my F97 X3M wheel and tire thread ( https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...weights/page/1 ) which contains the extensive list I've been gathering of all Members' combinations is empty. And when I attempt to 'Quote' it nothing happens, and when I push 'Edit' to see if data is even there nothing shows. I am hoping this is just a character limit and that all of the data hasn't been lost? Really, really hoping...

Also, 'notifications' bell shows '6' but when pushed there aren't any notifications for me.

As my focus is on the F97 X3M/F98 X4M sub-Forum I only have a few days’ experience with the new format as it just changed over the week.

Some early thoughts including the main one I mentioned earlier this morning (I have reviewed all 8 pages of this thread but apologies in advance if some of these have been clarified elsewhere in other new format threads):

1 – Hopefully the data I’ve compiled over the years in the OP of our ‘F97 X3M/F98 X4M Members’ Wheel & Tire Combinations and Weights’ hasn’t been lost and just needs re-configuring to allow for greater character number - https://x3.xbimmers.com/forums/showt...ns-and-weights .

2 – would like to bump jsh139’s question, as to why individual posts are no longer being numbered within a thread? It doesn’t appear there is a simple method to reference one and/or link to it now?

3– curious as to reasoning for removing ‘Member join date’ and ‘Member location’ from the Member’s side bar Avatar and post/rep count? Although some chose not to share location, personally found these to be quite helpful as background info before even reading the post shared

4– wondering why the post time (even if just in UTC) was removed and we are left with only the date of a thread’s post? Not only does the time allow for referencing a specific post but also allows a better understanding of the flow of a thread’s discourse.

5– I frequently view my image download numbers to get a sense of what is of interest, and to then modify what and how I present images in the future – has that functionality now been removed (as I cannot find a way to access such now)?

6– Is it no longer possible to view if a Member is currently ‘online’ in the Forum as we used to have with the green left lower symbol in their prior posts? This was often helpful when trying to obtain a quick response and/or DM someone. Granted some may have remained ‘logged on’ and not actually been active but usually that wasn’t the case for me over the years.

Much appreciation to apptest and others involved in trying to manage this huge transition (I don't have an IT or Web background, but this has to be a significant task). :-)

#1: Yes you are absolutely correct, it went over the character limit, you are the new character limit champion I upped the limit so the post is back, let me know if you see anything wrong there

#2: This is still being worked on and is coming back in some form

#3: Those are still available, but you have to tap the user name to get the profile popup and it shows. I also like to instantly see that info sometimes, but we also had to de-clutter a little. I got used to the new way and it seems to work just the same

#4: Posts are always in date/time order so for flow it should always be in chronological order

#5: Great idea, I'll add that to our to-do list to bring back

#6: Im toying with bringing this back, debating privacy etc.. in the past this was behind an option flag which of course the minority of people would know about or adjust

#7: Great thouyghts/comments, keep them coming as they come to mind please!

-Excellent - thank you! Not a Championship Title I have ever aimed for, but when I started the thread I had no idea we'd have so many combinations. :-)

-Wonderful

#5: Great idea, I'll add that to our to-do list to bring back

-Perfect!

#6: Im toying with bringing this back, debating privacy etc.. in the past this was behind an option flag which of course the minority of people would know about or adjust

-Sounds good

Thank you for your responses, apptest - much appreciated. Answers above in italics. Note I tried to make all of them red but only my reply to your first allowed such. And 'Smiley's aren't working for me, just an FYI. :-)
