Cars for about 40K
My parents are thinking about getting a "retirement" car for around 40K. My mom really wants a 370Z 40th Anniversary Edition. I suggested she wait for the 5.0 Mustang but she doesn't like American cars. The only other car I can think of is an Audi TT 2.0. She doesn't really care about speed, although the 370Z will provide enough. Anybody have other suggestions?

They aren't considering a BMW; we've had way too many in the past.
A5... I'll see what they say, but my parents wanted something that looked more like a sports car. I admit though, they look really nice. I doubt they want to spend more than 45K... they have way too many taxes to pay this year, in addition to our trip to Europe in about a month and their trip to South America later this year.

A5 looks like a sports car. Its a damn sexy design.
The Eos is nice looking for your mother, but not a mans car at all if your father wants to drive. Some of the newer Volvos are cool. S60 is the sporty one I believe? Saab convertibles. Endless possibilities. |

Genesis 4.6 sedan, It's luxurious, fast, and great price. It would be good for a retired couple, a z or a mustang may become uncomfortable after a while but it's their choice

I think the 370Z would be a great choice for her...

If the A5 is running the revised 2.0 (like the one in the upcoming 2011 TT) that would probably be the best choice.
As for the Z... she only likes the Anniversary color; I doubt she'll have the patience to drive stick (or for us to teach it). She doesn't like any other color so there's a very high chance of her not getting a Z.

Agreed with the peeps - A5, Passat CC, TT, Z4, GTI, C70 or Genesis Sedan or Coupe.
As much as I'm sure the 40th 370z would be a great sports car, that thing will NOT be comfortable. |

asking myself that question...
Btw 2 weeks ago I told my dad that I wanted to get him a retirement present(A mid 90 miata is what I could find at a reasonable price.I love my parents but I won't be taking a second mortgage ) The old man said no thanks and will sell it if I ever force him the car...He will keep on driving his crossover as the all around car (its comfy, has space to travel,go to costco) thats what you need when you're retired. Working all these years, raising a family, being tired etc you need a comfy car...The 370z doesnt fit the bill...its loud, rough etc....If it's to get a toy..well a sebring convertible,mustang,miata,G6,EOS,Mini convert etc can all do the job...if it's only one car then she should buy a CTS or any car out there.... I repeat as much as the 370z is a nice car...if she never had those kind of cars you dont start buying them at 50-60+. Maybe a convertible 350z will do the job...sorry but I'm cheap I would get one of those cars used and drive a bigger DD. You can have most of the car that I stated before for a song. That means that if she doesn't like the car she can sell it at the price that she initially paid.

Ideally I'd have her wait a year for the Audi TT w/ the revised 2.0 TSFI engine. Honestly, nothing might happen... she might just re-invest that money into property.
