Looking good Dan. Love the the attention to detail with this.
Full suspension overhaul is something i did on my Previous megane sport and ill be doing the same with my 330. So i'm keen to see what you think to it. Did you go for B4 Bilstein with lowering springs? |

I've done it with all my BMWs now - start as I mean to go on etc... Just a shame I can't be there and help out like I normally do... Re suspension - Bilstein B4S shocks and Eibach pro-kit springs with all new Sachs top mounts all round and all new rubber bits/gaskets from BMW etc Pics are on previous page I think

Yeah usually I'd have been there getting in their way and being Chief Brew Bitch But I'm crocked and not able to do much; so best to leave them to it as it'll get done quicker (we want it back due to the potential weather that's on its way this weekend into next week etc as the BMWs the one on winter tyres)! But after the Highlands road trip in Feb; that's when I start to look to put the summers back and when I do; I always go to town on the wheel arches/suspension and clean it all so it's like new under there Treat it with 303 Aerospace protectant and it lasts well...

Rear nearly completed
HEL braided brake lines and fluid flush/refill to go, as well as the cooling system overhaul and then it's it'll have the tracking/alignment done and as best a fast road set up as they can do

On the final throws now...
Being set up: It's had everything done bar the full coolant flush & refill as their wste tank is brimmed and hasn't been collected in weeks (useless local council); so it'll go back at a later date for that Ride height looks spot on, on that picture plus it'll settle a touch more too once it's been used for a good few miles Should be good to be collected tomorrow

Still need to be able to drive over crappy roads and speed humps without worrying what I'm going to hit underneath

And back on the drive
My pals have done a superb job; only driven the car home as I'm not really able to drive much currently unfortunately; so it'll have to wait to the end of the month when I've recovered, to take it for a proper run But it felt planted on the way home; the new suspension is just that, new! Feels firmer, but not stupidly, takes bends and roundabouts much better and one section of road that I knew the F31 would get a bit loose on, in the rear, didn't at all and just drove straight & true A few shots of it back on the drive at its new ride height and a few shots of the rear all built up with all new arms bar the rear ones as they're not even a year old

Looks really good danb1979
You may find that the springs don't settle much. Ohlins, for example, cycles its springs in the factory and mine only settled by <1mm.

Yeah they'll not settle much at all; they didn't on my E39 touring realy, maybe a few mm but that's it The ride height is perfect for what I want; close that front wheel/arch gap mainly and that's what it's done

Re power; think it's 218bhp; so up from around 190'something on the 320Ds... It'll be interesting to see what it makes when I get it remapped next month (after I've had the ZF8 serviced and added the XHP map to the box)

Looks bang on and I'm pleased to hear it feels more planted and rides well
Not wanting to be negative, but is that corrosion I can see on the battery box underneath there? I didn't think the F3x suffered from rust, eek! You'll have to get all Streten on that before it spreads! Pretty much sorted now isn't it. What's next after the mapping? |

I've the stud conversion and 12mm spacers to fit (so whilst doing that I'll thoroughly deep-clean all the wheel arches etc) and sort that bit of surface rust out at the back ZF8 service and then XHP map; then engine remap after that I think Then once we're well into Spring; I'll take it to my pals to get the front/rear bumpers resprayed and probably a front end refresh to sort all the stone chips out

Yeah I'm in for the XHP as well, after reading the latest review. Sounds spot on Uff, bumpers. Is it just me or is the paint on F3x bumpers really thin and fragile like egg shells? It seems to chip super easily. I never tailgate people, so it's annoying it's still getting peppered with stone chips. |

[QUOTE=danb1979;29832463]The road trip and week away to the Highlands got cut short unfortunately; we all ended up with a rotten chest infection and it's still trying to wipe me out now...
Should have been back tomorrow, but we came home Wednesday and todays the first day I've left the house (albeit to clean both the cars) That's about as much fresh air as I can take without coughing myself inside out Anyways; Racing Jazz fully washed and cleaned inside & out; then onto the touring... Poor bloody thing got covered in all sorts of salty shite on the M6/M74/M80/A9 etc... It's been deep cleaned inside & then it's had a full BH snowfoam session, I've gone over the panels with GTechniq W6 Iron & Fallout remover, rinsed, snowfoamed again, rinsed, hand washed, rinsed, AGs Polar Seal applied and then towel dried... Tyres treated with Gyeon Q2 tyre gel and parked it up the drive, out of harms way Oh where did you get that boot liner? been looking for something like that, its a good fit! |
