I still think this is most likely a glitch in the code that (under certain circumstances) causes a "turn light on" code/command to be sent to the light unit... and/or (possibly) a glitch in the LIN...
I really don't think it is hardware related....

Worst in heavy traffic, it's something to do with the brake signal to the rear.
Annoyingly since my rear light unit was replaced mine now also comes on when the ACC isn't active. My email went to BMw today, and was cc'd to Watchdog. |

You could be on to something there, I wonder if the rear interior light is controlled by the REM (same control module for the taillights).

Good point!
Maybe it is speed related. I've not used ACC in town traffic recently, where it would be frequently signaling the brake lights to come on. Only used in motorway conditions where slowing down probably didn't use the brakes at all. So if the signal to bring the brake lights on is sometimes interpreted by the interior light it should come on? |

Something like that. The dealer told me that when plugged into the computer the car indicates a rear light daily due to a voltage drop.
The implication being the fault is with the rear light unit itself as opposed to any coding however. |

It appears there is still no solution. I am told there is a part coming in Jan but I won’t hold my breath!
BMW seem to have an issue finding the true fault as I have had two modified units and both have failed... |

Got a reply confirming there is no resolution to the problem and no timeline in place either.
Asked for the procedure to raise a formal complaint but told there is no facility to do that. My light now comes on,alot, even without ACC active. This is just ridiculous, a £40k car that has a faulty light and no prospect of a solution or a dealer/manufacturer that seems to care. |

Has anyone contacted Watchdog?
Edit: I see daveb666 has done just that. Should we all do the same? Last edited by TimMcC; 01-03-2018 at 09:43 AM.. Reason: Didn't spot the answer... |

To be honest I've learnt to live with it, as irritating as it is. A quick press of the main light switch to turn them off saves my annoyance reaching silly levels. Still shouldn't be happening though.

I've just done a round trip to Scotland of about 900 miles(ish), majority of it using ACC. On the way up it came on once and on the way back not even a flicker.

This is odd, today I drove from London to Norwich and mine also didn’t come on once! Probably coincidence, but still strange nonetheless!

Got it fixed! Or at least I think so!!! New part arrived and was fitted so there is hope that it will now solve the problem after the first two sets of dud units.
