Hey fam,
I'm in Jamaica with a 2015 435i that was imported from Singapore. Today I had the software patch applied along with the installation of a "steering box repair kit". This kit consists of a bushing that is replaced inside the steering box. With both these fixes applied I think I have cured the issue. My girl was feeling sweet as I stepped inside her belly on the way home from my local dealer. |

I have same knocking sound on my 440i xdrive f36, adaptive suspension. I was at 4 dealers till now, and nobody know how to fix it. They verified everything and cant find any issue. They did a software update, but no luck. Do you know if its a special update? Specially made for the dampers? Thanks! |

Update:
I updated the software to latest version, but the sound is still there. He told me that the update fixes noises in cars made before 2016. The dealer also took a ride with me in another 440i and the knocking was in the other car also. So i guess that is normal. |

Just had mine in for a check due to the knocking noises, not the dealers but the place that has looked after my car for years. Turns out it needs a new steering rack. Its a 2015 on approx 64k.
Bugger! |

Hi All, 2016 430i, 72000km same issue (started at 63000). Hollow knocking sound coming from front right, over uneven slightly rough surfaces at 30-70km.
Had the steering control rack changed, no change. Changed shockers, no change. My offical bmw service centre called in 2 BMW regional reps insect. They confirmed the noise and signed off as normal noise. Sure doesn’t sound normal. Basically nothing they can do. Any thought what else can be done? Thanks in advance. |

Get used to it. Mine does it sometimes even after i replaced top mounts and springs. I hardly notice it and it's only when going really slowly over certain bumps like sleeping policeman...

So reading through the thread(s), as there is more than one about this topic here, its become apparent to me that the hollow knocking sound is loudest on the drivers side (steering wheel is on the right on mine). Does anyone else agree with my comment?
Anyone know what the specific differences are between left and right configurations ie what parts are flipped so to speak? |

Hollow knocking noises on the right side of the car can be caused by the windscreen washer fluid tank knocking against the body.
Pop the wheel arch liner out and see if it’s loose. |
