Just opened the letter today as I had set it aside as thinking they were sending another service sales pitch. 2016 F31 328 here. It's not a recall, so does one wait until it fails emissions testing? Would be a good opportunity to replace the fuel pump too as the dealer told me it was an item that failed regularly on these cars.

2013 335i here,
So I got the letter few weeks ago, finally took my car in, found out my left tank was defect. If you are confident that your fuel tank has a flaw, bring them in, if not they are going to charge you for inspection. Mine did not have CEL, or any codes i believe but few things i've noticed was gas smell for sure, when fueling gas it clicks before its even full, my gas gauge is messed up, not reading right amount etc. |

I looked this up on the NHTSA website and it is rather ambiguous about the diesel cars. The key statement is this:
Quote:
What is also odd is that the NHTSA page showing BMW's communications regarding the 328d references the above document. Color me confused. |

Might be a problem with the pump. The letter will explain the symptoms.

Curious, for these issues with the gas tank and pcv valve, etc.. since it’s a known issue and warranty is extended specifically because of it… would the dealership be more inclined to honor the warranty if the car is modified?
Also heard that the dealer needs to prove the modification caused the failure before declining warranty repairs, but also heard of dealers giving a hard NO, or not giving a crap and doing the work anyway.. what are your guys experience?
