For those who dont know, I am the "Senior Advanced LEGO Model Designer" for the official LEGO video games. TT games Studio in Knutsford, owned by Warner Bros. 15 years there, I have 20 or so games under my belt, 3 film / DVD productions.

Designed the LEGO Ideas Caterham 7 set which was put into production late 2016 and I'm published in about 7 books. I think its fair to say I love LEGO, always have and always will.

We got 2k racing also for the switch. It's one of the free December PlayStation plus games also.

Just looking that up these go on eBay for 70 quid, wtf!
We just moved house (another story…) but whilst making insufficient attempts at clearing out beforehand in the garage I came across my old, original, boxed 6 Million Dollar Man. I sold it on eBay and netted £140!

Happy New Year to all for tonight
I started at a similar age, my dad thought it was a good idea that he bought me technic sets from a young age (possibly for his initial enjoyment) 😂 loved Lego ever since and when my son was born I started him off, and took two trips in the f31 with the rear seats down to collect my lego from my parents house.

I have your caterham set, really enjoyed building it - thanks!

Had to stop buying it as we ran out of space, so had to extend the house for another bedroom to house it 🤣

Glad to see you are still around and enjoying the RS, although at 7k miles it sounds more like an ornament than a car

I've never really been into lego, partly as my son didnt seem bothered. And in 1971 I'd moved passed lego to meccano, the joys of being older! The grandsons are however starting to get into it so I can see lots of time being spent with them building stuff... or at least buying stuff for them to build with their dad!

Glad you are still making a good living from it although I have to confess I have no idea what you do despite you writing it! I could probably cost it though and work out the profit (if my spreadsheet could deal with numbers that big )

Cheers Ian I got it wrong, its actually on 8400 now! Yeah it sounds like it doesn't get used much, but its mostly town runs for a few miles a few times a week, and some long 3-400mile cruises every few months...I started typing more, so rather than derail this thread, will start a new one...which will "ahem" get updated as and when!

In terms of what I actually do, in laymans terms I design and build the models that go into our games.

So, for instance in the case of the last Starwars game we did, any ships that are needed in game, I am told what size they need to be, if they have certain functionality required, like working ramps, landing gear etc, how many figures need to fit in...you get the idea.

I then have to research said ships, usually we are given access to IP holders film and props ref material / assets to be able to work from.
Next I have to make a LEGO model to look as close to the film model as possible, but whilst also retaining an obvious LEGO identity aesthetic along with any functionality.

Technic models need to be built using mainly "technic" parts and roughly 10% "system" parts to retain the identity and "system" models should only really have roughly upto 10% "technic" parts in them.

Once the model is designed and built, LEGO, Lucasarts and Warner all need to approve it, give feedback etc. This is down to weather they are all happy with the way its built (yes there are legal and illegal building connections) and if it suits the IP.
When its signed off, its rigged up in physics engine and put into game.

That's an example for ships, but I also had things like all the main capital ship interiors and hangars to replicate and build. They were for all the game play to happen within those levels.

I bet your still as confused now after that!

We’ve been busy, me and the lad, last few weeks we’ve done the Mercedes F1/Project One twin pack and the latest Ford Mustang Dark Horse and McLaren F1 car. Loving Speed Champions.

I had that! The only one I've built in recent times is the Corvette ZR1 42093. I've built a few of the cheaper Speed Champions as well.

Awesome,

I have asked for the W14 and the McLaren for my birthday coming up in a couple weeks... lets hope I am lucky.

I have a bit of a man cave/gaming room where I do plenty of simulator racing and these two cars would look excellent on a shlef next too the Porsche 911 RSR I built last year.

Expensive stuff but a great gift.
