And then there is this.
As has been mentioned earlier.....you are all over the place. All great cars, but I'm not sure how you got the G-wagon in your list. If you think you want one then do your research, and go drive one.....and please take it in the dirt.

E63s wagon, or GLE63s. I’m a Benz fan but don’t care for the G as a vehicle I would own.

I think I know the perfect car for you. The Audi S8, same car I'm looking at getting. Fairly rare, insane power, 0-60 in the 3 second range, AWD for the snow, massaging seats, you get the point. Wife and I recently test drove the lesser sporty version, the A8, (still very quick) and we were blown away. I'm very picky and am also usually all over the place about cars but I'm stuck on this one. Even the wife, who could care less about cars, wants it.

I was having same drama about a year ago. Ive only had either roadster, coupe or Suv all my life and as I aged, I started to sick of sports cars as they are either small, tight, harsh or loud. And while Suv is still essential part of my life, I wanted something new.
My main interest was to get a car that has a good road presence, NOT flashy, has good amount of room, enough luxury to haul my clients time to time, bit of fast and furious, name value and one that retains its value. I narrowed my list to RS7, S7, X6M, 6GC and Vantage. Then I crossed out Vantage for the price, terrible reliability, crossed out RS7 because it looked and sounded too flashy IMO, and crossed out X6M because of battery issue. I was never fan of big saloons but once drove 6GC and S7, I instantly fell in love for its amenities, speed, subtle sportsness, and very upscale presence on the road. I ended up with fully load S7 because I think it has more timeless design and just love that sweet rumbling V8. |

I had a similar dilemma, ended up with a long base range rover. I now drive like a grandmother, enjoy my massage on the way to work, and couldn't care less about speed or second cars anymore.

If any of you travel outside of the US to places similar to South Africa et al. Look around and pay attention. All you’ll see is OG Land Cruisers, Range Rovers (Defenders of all variations), and early G-wagons for a reason. These vehicles have been tested, are virtuous and resilient. They last for years. The “luxury” aspect is in fact their reliability and utility. You don’t see X5Ms and the other US super heavy, tech-ladened versions as much outside say London.

Also in the Dolomites (Italy), there are many Land Cruisers and Range Rovers. Not sure if they are driving off road, or if they are in that area for the cool factor, along with the Ferraris and Lamborghinis.

Drove a G63 to Houston and back once. It was exhausting. Driving one of those is a full time job. Definitively not relaxing at all.
But like most AMGs, they sound amazing. |

I personally like the g-wagon. I have driven one on and off road but there's no point in owning one if you're not planning to leave the pavement, I think. If you're into camping, fishing, etc then you should definitely consider it.

There's a joy to operating an honest-to-goodness truck. There's a mechanical feeling that's missing from many modern vehicles.

for a solid axle front and rear SUV they drive pretty great, but if you haven't ever owned something with both solid axles front and rear it's gonna ride like a truck to you. I had a defender 90 so I call it a fancy riding defender, would absolutely love one with a 4" lift and some aggressive tires to make people scratch their heads

Get the G wagon. It's purpose built, excellent off roader that can climb 100% grade and still looks cool going out on the town. It's telling people you have arrived and then just kept on going.

G wagon is legit but the outgoing model was pretty outdated and crappy from an engineering perspective. The interior was ancient and had mediocre design/quality.
Maybe wait a year for some of the new G wagon models to be traded in?
